UK rapper Sway teams up with Akon on his new single ‘Silver & Gold’, which is about a cold, manipulative, money hungry stripper. I admit ‘Silver & Gold is (kind of) catchy (well the hook is) but it’s strange hearing Sway rap on a track of this nature, and watching him attempt to look suave and sexy in the middle of a nightclub surrounded by attractive women. It’s just strange… it’s just not really him…. This sort of visual scenerio, along with the track’s lyrical content tends to work better when a rapper has […]
Remember the UK’s Lady Sovereign who 2/3 years ago was being touted as the next big thing to come from this side of the pond? She signed to Universal/Def Jam and expectations were high when she dropped her debut album ‘Public Warning’. Then as predicted it all turned sour and she disappeared off the scene. But now she is back with the single ‘I Got You Dancing’, and is set to drop her sophomore album ‘Jigsaw’ soon. I can’t wait….. Your thoughts please…..
Another day….. another arrest…… Via BBC News Rapper Dizzee Rascal has been arrested in south-east London following an alleged incident involving a baseball bat, police have said. The Mercury Prize winner, whose real name is Dylan Mills, was held on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in Sevenoaks Way, Orpington. The alleged incident happened at about 1530 GMT on Friday. Mr Mills, 24, was released on bail to return to a south London police station later in December, police said. A spokesman […]
Several weeks ago I dedicated an entire post to UK R&B/Pop singer Taio Cruz (click here to read). In my post I asked Taio why he has never cast a black actress/model to play his love interest in any of his music videos and I’ve finally got my answer…. Via Taio’s label Rokstarr Music What kind of Racist blog are you running here? We as Black people search for equality and pray for an intergrated society where all of us, black, white, asian, or other are all looked […]
I see that the UK’s now jumping on the vocoder bandwagon……… Anyway Wiley, Kano and Ghetts attempt to get their sexy on in the video and on this track for the ladies. The video and the track make me smile…….. Plus I am in SHOCK right now… a UK music video featuring male black artists, and they have actually hired black women to appear in the video alongside them. For once they haven’t been relegated the background!!!!! Also in one scene Ghetts is sitting next to a gorgeous dark skinned sista. Wow… First […]
Sorry I’ve been a bit slow on the updates. It was a slow news day yesterday and the Virgin Media Broadband service is currently experiencing technical difficulties in my area. Anyway I am back online for now, so check out the BET (UK Edition) Cypher featuring Giggs, Skepta, Chipmunk and Ghetto. Hmmmmmm this is pretty lacklustre….. Your thoughts please……
Photo Source Thanks goes out to reader Cleo C for drawing this to my attention. UK rapper Pyrelli, who I always thought was already a some what established artist (he has been doing his thing for years now and enjoyed some success) has entered the Orange Unsigned Act, which is a nationwide competition to find the best unsigned musical talent in the UK. I am still surprised to hear that he has entered this competition. He is already relatively well known, so why does he need to get involved […]
‘Cash In My Pocket’ is the new single release from UK Grime/Rap emcee Wiley. The single will officially drop on December 1st and his forthcoming album ‘See Clear Now’ will drop on December 8th. I have never been a Wiley fan, but I have to give this track a thumbs up. I really like it. Wiley, I do believe you have a hit on your hands here! Your thoughts please….
I support Chipmunk. He’s young (17), fresh, focused, seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and his music doesn’t sound half bad. You can tell that the North London based emcee puts some thought in to creating a track before subjecting it to an unsuspecting audience. Unlike some that I could mention, who insist on continuing to contaminate the UK Scene with piss poor rhymes, piss poor flows, piss poor production and piss poor music promos. Louik Essien is a gifted vocalist, so why is he attempting to channel in Lil Wayne/T-Pain on this track? Your thoughts […]
UK MUSIC: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY N-DUBZ – ‘PAPA’ I do respect N-Dubz’s hustle. The group has been persevering together for 10 years and recently saw a change in their fortunes, thanks to their “strange” blend of R&B/Hip Hop. Now on to the track… I actually like the female vocalist’s voice (for some reason), but other than that ‘Papa’, a track that explores the subject matter of death and loss, sounds weak and badly produced. And don’t even get me started on the other the top/”highly emotional” rapping………. I am […]
