Singer Lauryn Hill performed at the Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa California last week. It’s good to see her back.
Jay-Z’s influence runs DEEP once again! UK rappers just love to sip that Jay Juice. Three words – Run This Town. In all honesty the production isn’t bad but lyrically he’s just all over the place. I’ve listened to this track six times and I still don’t know why he’s the Black Batman. Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?
Rapper/singer Drake released his highly anticipated debut album Thank Me Later yesterday, and decided to throw a free concert in New York. However the concert was later cancelled when 25,000 people turned up and proceeded to lose their minds and acted the fool for no good reason. The crowd became unruly (fights broke out and rioting) which led to safety concerns. According to WABC in New York, the crowd for the concert, which also had the singing band of brothers Hanson on the bill, swelled to 25,000 people — more than double the […]
Source He looks different…
The BBC News website reports that Sean Combs aka Puff Daddy aka Puffy aka Puff aka P Diddy aka Diddy aka Papa Diddy Pop, has expressed admiration for today’s ‘UK Hip Hop scene’. The star believes that British Hip Hop is “on the verge of breaking into the US charts”, and added, “I’ve always been abreast and respected the UK Hip-Hop scene and I look forward to great things,” (saying this in a broad Jamaican accent) – STOP LIE!!!!! But I would love to know the names of […]
Every up and coming artist should watch this. Sad….
Dizzee Rascal wants us to know that he is not a ‘sell out’, and has dismissed claims that his new single ‘Dirtee Disco’ is mainstream cheesy trash. He disclosed to the ridiculous Daily Star that, “People say I’m selling out but it doesn’t get to me anymore. It depends on what people mean by selling out, and who’s saying it. “Some people think it’s morally wrong of me to not ‘keep it real’ but a lot of the time this is coming from drug dealers and robbers. Talk […]
Check out British Hip Hop duo Angha and their debut single For You, featuring Dele. For You is a well produced track, but it sounds very familiar, and has that late 90s / early noughties American R&B/Hip Hop saccharine sweat fusion going on. It actually reminds me of Jennifer Lopez’s 2001 hit featuring Nas, I’m Gonna Be Alright. Click HERE to watch. And for some reason Ja Rule’s 2004 track New York. Click HERE to watch. Duo Angha sound okay, but for […]
Rapper Sway’s new single featuring Donae’O Pop A Bottle is your typical “urban” mainstream track designed to infiltrate the UK single chart. It will sell. Donae’O sings he wants a “Coca Cola bottle shape”. Singing about wanting a woman with a Coca Cola bottle shape is so Reggae/Dancehall circa ‘1992’. The video – Well it’s not particularly original. Woman dancing in a nightclub, champagne and silhouette shots. Yeah seen it all before. Pop A Bottle will be released July 12th on iTunes. […]
Last Friday I tuned in to Tonight With Jonathan Ross and watched rapper Tinie Tempah perform with the Gorillaz. What I witnessed stunned me! Tinie had turned in to Jay-Z and stole Jay’s stage persona for the evening. It was actually embarrassing to watch. At one point I kept thinking is Tinie joking? Is he doing this deliberately? I understand that a lot of UK rappers look up to Jay and cite him as being a major influence, but this was just […]
