It has been reported that comedian, actor and writer Felix Dexter died earlier today following a battle with multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer. Felix starred in the hit 1990s BBC black British sketch show The Real McCoy and also recently starred in the BBC 1 sitcom Citizen Khan. Local news website The Comet reports that British award-winning film maker Mark Straker died suddenly on Thursday (17 October). The writer and filmmaker’s many accolades include Best Acting at the London Black Film Makers International Film Festival in 2009 for Second Chance, a Hollywood VSM award in 2009 for Hitchin-based short film One of Us, and a British Cinema Inspiration Award for PUKKA in 2004. UK NEWS: SCHOOL BANS SLANG TO IMPROVE STUDENTS SPEECH / DAVID LAMMY MP AGREES WITH BAN

Via BBC News Slang such as “ain’t”, “innit” and “coz” has been banned from a school in south London to try to help students find future employment. Harris Academy Upper Norwood said it implemented the initiative to allow its students to “express themselves confidently and appropriately”.
