On Thursday 8th March I attended the premier of the short film BLUD written by rapper, actor and director Fredi ‘Kruga’ Nwaka.
The film is described as an
Urban thriller, BLUD combines the gritty unpredictable under world with that of the real world and brings you a breath-taking journey into the supernatural.
Every UK urban project that is released these days features a run down council estate, feral youth, drug dealing and violence. BLUD goes down this same tried and tested road but also has a supernatural theme running through it where blood thirsty vampires with uncharacteristic powers rule the criminal underworld.
BLUD slots in to the horror film genre but failed in scenes that were supposed to be scary and chilling to evoke a reaction of fear from the audience. Instead you would often hear laughter or there was no reaction at all.
The plan is to eventually turn this short in to a feature-length film but I think that before this can happen a lot of work needs to be done in terms of storyline and character development and creating scenes that succeed in making the audience laugh and flinch with fear in the right places. Also I think it would be a good idea to draft in other writers (up and coming) to contribute new and fresh ideas, and a strong cast needs to be brought on board.
I do however applaud Fredi’s efforts here. Considering BLUD was in his words “made with no money at all” it looked quite good visually and it’s a start, he can build from this. But like I said before a lot of work needs to be done and some major changes need to take place first before it can graduate to the silver screen.

I hope he turns it round. I’m just tired of a seeing the same thing in the UK
Good on you Jan for going and giving it a chance, as they couldn’t even edit the credits and ensure they were spelt correctly in the trailer I wouldn’t have expected much from the film. SMH
One day we will do better.
I was there too. I thought for a short film, it was sick! Considering it was made with no budget, the quality and concept was on point. It does need some work to become a feature but then that’s what having a budgets all about I guess. Team UK all day. I think he cd be on to something. PS. That lil boy was so cute 🙂
Can’t wait to see this. UK stuff is boring these days.
Is the reporter of this article American btw?
No South London born and raised.
Mmmmmm na
I starred in this film and i have done a bit of TV work before always having had time to prepare and get the feeling of the characters to be played. In this we the cast had hardly any time to prepare, so in the time Freddi had, and the budgit he had to spend, i think he did a great Job. Of course the Characters could have been developed better and scenes made more scary with effects, costume and make up artists, but thast costs time and money, which we had none off. In the words of the great man himself this was done on big mac money. Every cast and crew member did this for free. Compared to some of the rubbish and ham acting there is on TV at the moment, the only way is essex for one, which i personaly think is garbage but has won awards god knows how, this could be a good thing, so please dont pull the film down. This man has a massive heart and the determination of a lion, give the man the investment and support he needs and watch him go, and then and only then, if its no good, then be the judge. Good luck Freddi, keep on keepin on.
