MP for Tottenham David Lammy recently sat down with the Community Channel’s London 360 and had this to say …
….
When it comes to David Lammy I never know what to think, he is no Bernie Grant (Rest In Peace) BUT he is talking sense here!
As for rappers and footballers (in particular) giving something back financially to the community… Hahahahaha – don’t hold your breath David.
Your thoughts please….
i guess he’s never met breis……… i gues he’s nver met akala
this statement a little sweeping … what he should be saying is rap pop stars.. and footballers….
Has the bloodsucker Lammy ever done anything for his black community?
I agree with him to a point, but to lay total responsibility on rap stars and footballers is not fair. I think the problem is that the rappers and footballers who do give back to the community, very little is said about that, yet if anyone of them were to have a night with a wannabe WAG, then that would be front page news.
I think that people with influence, whatever there profession should give back to the community as standard. People in the entertainment industry tend to come under fire more, as there always shown as being a bunch of wasteful idiots, yet the more concious ones (like Akala, LowKey, as mention by Ty) dont get farted on when they do positive stuff.
TBH, parents need to be the teachers, not bloody rap stars!!!
Lammy seems to be all talk and no action.
Rio Ferdinand is very active in the community aswell. Similar to what Terra said, parents, family members and faith are what builds and strengthens communities. And actually we are too reliant on footballers and rappers. By doing this perpetuates the myth that they are our only success story.
It’s very true, more footballers and rappers do need to give back to the community, but when they do it’s not shown or if it is shown it’s a publicity stunt. negative stories sell. I remember hearing about Wes Brown of Sunderland spending xmas day giving presents to children in a hospital he asked for no cameras but the paps showed up anyway when they heard he was there I don’t really follow Lammy that much so I can’t comment on him, but I do agree with some of what he says. I think everyone has to help the community and it starts with raising your kids or being there for your family and it isn’t just blacks boys either it’s black girls as well
