Rumour has it that Island Def Jam is about to go through some massive changes. The legendary Hip Hop label once home to some of the most respected and successful rappers ever to grace the scene will appparently merge with two other Universal Music subsidiaries, and will axe 70% of its staff. ……………………………………………………………. Sad news if true.
Several days ago I posted a story about Welsh songstress Duffy. The story which was posted on the Digital Spy website ( the original source was The Daily Star), claimed that Duffy’s label A&M (a subsidiary of Universal Music) was closing its doors due to “disappointing sales” of her sophomore album Endlessly, which was only released LAST WEEK! I wrote that I couldn’t understand why they would label her album a flop when it was only released last week, and the […]
This news hasn’t been officially confirmed yet but it’s been reported that Island Def Jam bigwigs fired label executives L.A Reid and singer/producer The Dream today. Via Gyant Unplugged According to my source, Vin Vivendi, a french international media conglomerate, with activities in music, television, film, and telecommunications, is cleaning house, and Dream as well as LA Reid are out due to disappointing sales figures and exuberant spending . If L.A Reid has in fact “left the building” then I wonder where […]

Last week the official poster for the up and coming Noel Clarke film 126.96.36.199 debuted online, which I later featured on Mad News. I also asked Noel a question regarding the poster which surprisingly didn’t seem to go down too well. He didn’t take to kindly to being questioned about the decision to feature one actress on the poster, clad only in underwear. Click here to read the post/subsequent heated debate if you missed it. Since then I have received emails from his supporters criticizing me for “calling Noel out like that” (erm all I […]
First Keisha and now Mutya…. Via BBC News Founding Sugababes member Mutya Buena has applied for ownership of the band’s name, her legal firm has confirmed. The star, who quit the band in 2005, has applied to the European Trademarks Authority for permission. Keisha Buchanan – the last of the original members – left last year. At the time Buena said: “It just means the Sugababes have ended.” But speaking at a recent album launch, current Sugababe Heidi Range said their record […]

Remember the UK’s Lady Sovereign who 2/3 years ago was being touted as the next big thing to come from this side of the pond? She signed to Universal/Def Jam and expectations were high when she dropped her debut album ‘Public Warning’. Then as predicted it all turned sour and she disappeared off the scene. But now she is back with the single ‘I Got You Dancing’, and is set to drop her sophomore album ‘Jigsaw’ soon. I can’t wait….. Your thoughts please…..
Several weeks ago I dedicated an entire post to UK R&B/Pop singer Taio Cruz (click here to read). In my post I asked Taio why he has never cast a black actress/model to play his love interest in any of his music videos and I’ve finally got my answer…. Via Taio’s label Rokstarr Music What kind of Racist blog are you running here? We as Black people search for equality and pray for an intergrated society where all of us, black, white, asian, or other are all looked […]
