UK MUSIC NEWS: TINCHY STYDER GIVEN PUBLISHING DEAL TO SOURCE NEW TALENT

According to Digital Spy, Tinchy Stryder has been given a publishing deal to source new talent by record executives. The Number One singer’s first signings are producers Dirty Danger and Nathan Retro. Stryder, whose real name is Kwasi Danquah, said: “My music comes first but discovering new talent is really important to me and something I can see myself getting more into. “I can definitely see myself as the next Simon Cowell.” Stryder’s new album Catch 22 is released on August 17. UK MUSIC NEWS: DIZZEE RASCALS ‘BONKERS’ EXPECTED TO BECOME ‘BEST SELLING SINGLE OF THE YEAR’

Via Digital Spy Dizzee Rascal’s new single ‘Bonkers’ is expected to become the best-selling single of the year so far. The track, which is a collaboration with dance DJ Armand Van Helden, shifted 46,000 units on its first day of release. With continuing high sales, the song will easily overtake first week sales of previous number ones. Comic Relief charity single ‘Islands In The Stream’ shifted 87,000 in its first seven days, while Calvin Harris’s ‘I’m Not Alone’ sold 66,000 copies. Tinchy []

UK NEWS: POLICE DEFEND BLACK MUSIC CONCERT CRACKDOWN

Via BBC News Police have defended their use of a controversial form that requires live music venues to hand over details of performers, promoters and fans. Form 696 has helped cut shootings and stabbings in and around London gig venues, the Metropolitan Police said. The Met introduced the risk assessment form to identify gigs where trouble might flare up, partly in response to black-on-black shootings.
