Via Allhiphop.com Rappers Jay-Z and Will Smith are among the investors in a Broadway play about the life of Nigerian singer/activist Fela Kuti. The heavyweight Hip-Hop duo are backing an $11 million dollar production of Bill. T. Jones’ musical “Fela,” which will open in November. Mad man David Truscott A pervert who got sexual thrills from manure has been jailed after he was caught pleasuring himself – in a muck spreader. This news surprised me. I didn’t think she would win. Via BBC News Rapper Speech Debelle is the surprise winner of the Mercury Prize for the best British album of the past year. Her debut Speech Therapy, released last month, has not appeared in the UK album chart but sales will get a huge boost from her win. CASTER SEMENYA TO KEEP GOLD MEDAL

MOVIE TRAILER: ‘PRECIOUS’

Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, critically acclaimed film ‘Precious’ starring Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Gabourey Sidibe, Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey will be released across America on the 6th November (no word on a UK release date yet). Directed by Lee Daniels, the Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry backed film is also receiving some Oscar buzz.

MAKE-OVER FOR SOUTH AFRICAN GENDER ROW CHAMPION

Via BBC News South African runner Caster Semenya, whose gender was queried by athletics officials, has defended her looks and taken part in a makeover in a magazine. Ms Semenya, the 800m world champion, posed for the cover of South Africa’s You magazine. “I am who I am and I am proud of myself,” the 18-year-old said. “I’d like to dress up more often and wear dresses but I never get the chance,” she said as she was photographed in several outfits. UK MUSIC: WAR CHILD – ‘I GOT SOUL’

The single I Got Soul has been recorded to raise money for the charity War Child and features Tinchy Stryder, N-dubz, Pixie Lott, Kid British, V V Brown, amongst others. The single will be released on October 19th. It’s like Band Aid all over again. I half expected Bob Geldof to step out of the shadows.
