QUOTE OF THE DAY: UK RAPPER FEM FEL (THE HIP HOP AND ‘NIGGA’ DEBATE RAGES ON)

Fem Fel

Yesterday website moorizZLA Says posted the article ‘Use of the ‘n word’ in Hip Hop music – Does it perpetuate racism? The piece discussed the prevalence of the word “nigger’ in today’s Hip Hop music and it’s crossover in to the mainstream.

Excerpt from the article:

The prevalence of the use of the word in hip-hop music has arguably greatly increased over the years. And with the crossing over of hip hop culture into the mainstream, one in which the majority of its consumers are white, middle class kids who in attempting to sing or rap along will undoubtedly use the word their ancestors would have once used to castigate the proprietors of the music – the question of why and how and should it be so prevalent, is an increasingly important one.

Several individuals contributed their thoughts to the article including South London rapper Fem Fel. He is one of many UK rappers who for whatever reason has decided to use the word in their music and he argues:

“If I was to meet another group of friends and be like these are all my niggers and that’s Tom … you can’t do that. My niggers are my niggers in that kind of sense”.

“I don’t know who it offends anymore… It doesn’t offend my peers, I don’t know how it could offend white people… so that’s why I use it.”

American rappers really are some powerful human beings. They have successfully pushed the word “nigga/nigger” in to the mainstream worldwide via their music and convinced many that the word is perfectly acceptable. They also now have young black British folk running around arguing  that it is no longer an offensive word (“it’s now a term of endearment” cos Jay-Z aka the Jigga Man said so) and then foolishly go on to encourage their friend’s from different races to “embrace” the word ‘nigger’ along with the words ‘lighties’ and ‘dark tings’.

Anyway I pray that these American rappers continue to use their ‘POWERS’ for good and UK rappers and our young black British youth continue to engage in follow fashion antics without thinking first.

Your thoughts please…..

  1. Verbs is gonna cut it straight, you refer to me using that word and I will first ask you for an explanation as to what in the heck you are doing? Following that I would tell you straight to never refer to me using that word again and failing that if you continued, it would be one straight to your jaw, even if you are black.

ARE WE STILL HERE IN THIS POSITION? Haven’t we moved forward for this foolishness YET? Yet again, stupid Negroes(particularly young blacks) who are comfortable on the plantation and who do not mind being constantly beat about the head with the baseball bat of Babylon, just so long as with each bash a trinkets falls into their hands, whether it be football, a blackberry, an iphone, big brother, nonsense music, porn etc.

You hit the nail right on the head Janice, these stupid American rappers, notably that fool Jay Z and his bum chum Kanye West especially with that Niggas In Paris song recently have not helped the situation. “Not offensive”????? In that case why don’t we start calling ourselves wogs, coons, porch monkeys, moolies, nig nogs, golly wogs etc to really get the milk flowing?

Fem Fel needs to shut his mouth and any other chief who cosigns to this stupidity, you are not speaking for me Fem Fel. It is so incredible how the JewISH media has gotten black people to accept such a derogatory title through the music genre. I read through the article and yet again DJ Snips(a European) is the man to speak sense while our people continue to talk babel and stupidity. Snips nailed it on the head, black people on the whole have taken on a derogatory term and have now accepted it as a given. Also I cosign with Williams, this foolishness needs to stop.

  2. It’s in embarrassing that a white man is the one talking sense while Fem Fel a BLACK MAN contributes a load of bull to the argument. He should have the word DUMB burned in to his forehead. Co-sign what Verbs say. The guy is a chief.

  3. Minx :It’s in embarrassing that a white man is the one talking sense while Fem Fel a BLACK MAN contributes a load of bull to the argument. He should have the word DUMB burned in to his forehead. Co-sign what Verbs say. The guy is a chief.

Until they get fined for it .They will never stop. SMH! Never used the word meself.

  4. Im hoping the ‘white people don’t find it offensive so that’s why I use it’ bit is a mistake or typo. How can anyone be that dumb?

  5. It’s ironic that DJ Snips is one of the voice’s of reason here yet defended those Adidas’ themed slave sneakers that were later banned

  6. The N-word its continual use is clearly a sign of internalised hatred. Words are powerful and their is nothing endearing about calling someone a low life which is what the N-word is.

  7. I don’t use the word or condone it

but let’s face some facts, all your favourite rappers use it even the so called “conscious” ones. Why use Jay Z and Kanye as scapegoats when your so called “deep” rappers like Talib kweli, mos def, common, Nas, dead prez etc etc use it

Please, let’s keep it real, call ALL OF THEM out and don’t get selective based on you distaste for some of these rappers that you don’t like.

  8. Also Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest refered to the word as a term of endearment in a track called “sucka nigga” looooooooooong before Jay Z ever did and that was an album that dropped in the early 90s!

  9. I personally hate the word and don’t like white or black people call me this. The reason why Jay-Z and Kanye West have been used is because they actually made a song with Nigga in the title which means when white people mention the song they have to use Nigga whose dumb idea was that. SMH.

Every rapper and person saying Nigga should watch this

  10. Plus Niggas In Paris is a HUGE mainstream hit. You had a French presidential candidate use it in his campaign video in a bid to get the black vote (he won). Kanye and Jay-Z major mainstream/”corporate” rappers who has middle England hanging on their every word.

Yes Q-Tip was another fool who said the word is a term of endearment on wax back in the 90s (He didn’t foresee the situation we are in now). But Hip Hop’s popularity has grown since then. More people are tuning in. Jay-Z went on OPRAH a show watched by millions worldwide and said that same foolishness. The Big O’s reply shut him down for a few minutes but sadly her thought provoking response was swiftly forgotten.

  11. commercial rap has been mainstream long before Jay-Z became the global star that he is, I am not not defending that corporate materialistic narcissist but let’s not act like hip hop has just gone global right now. DMX had everyone singing “what you really want from a nigga?” ages ago and many others who are commercially big have too (2 of the highest selling rap albums of all time are by Tupac and Biggie and let’s not act like only black people bought these albums full of nigga this and nigga that to make the numbers so high)

commercial rap has been global for a good long time and the use of word nigga has been a corporate commercial thing for ages. All I am saying is lets call all of them out and not make a scapegoat out of the biggest “sacred” cash cow of them all. One thing it does is it makes a “corporate martyr” out of him and his fans will play the “freedom of speech” card.

Let’s hold all these guys responsible. Just because more people are tuning in doesn’t mean all of a sudden we look for a scapegoat and act like it hasn’t been going on ages ago!

  12. Cosign Janice, nobody here is excusing any of these other rappers for using the term, Jay Z is just the most predominant fool that comes to mind, thats all. I stated “notably Jay Z And West”. This isn’t letting others off the hook.

As far as I am concerned, no rapper can be “deep” if they are using the term “nigger”, and by the way, there is no difference between “nigger” and “nigga”, more JewISH media and music industry promoted foolishness and stupid Negroes have simply bought into this folly of immense height. When are black people going to snap out of stupid mode?

  13. I agree with Janice. Jay-Z is being used as an example because he made a song with Nigga in the title. There’s now even an hispanic artist whose name is Nigga. I’m all for going at all the guys who use it and have tried to make it sound good, how can Nigga ever sound good.

You should stop using the word “negroes” too. You need some african detox like those kids you are criticizing.

  15. You can’t tell me that this is the first time the use of the word n in music has been heavily criticised. It is just that now, the means of communication are more and can reach a wider audience. I bet people have been saying this for a very long time, but in vain. Now everybody wants to jump onto the band wagon in full gear. *sigh*

  16. @Lechanoir

There is not a single word used to describe us that does not have a negative origin to it however apart from the word Hebrew, but then most people wouldn’t have a clue what you were talking about. Negro even though it is still a dregg description, is a damn sight better to use than “nigger” or “nigga” and is no way in the same league as them.

Um.. both are derogative actually and as far as I am concerned , I better NOT hear it in my presence , because I would disturb the peace otherwise.

I am just wondering why a lot of black people refuse to borrow an actual african word to describe their type/ethnicity/nationality. What is up with that.

  18. @Lechanoir

This is why more time I say the “so called” Negro, as I know that this term to describe us is yet another dodgy one in the long line of “references”, but we simply make do with that which is available and what most people will understand.

Ok then, exactly what term would you prefer us to use to describe black people that has not been wrought by the hands of the so called European man?
