BOY LEAVES SCHOOL AFTER PAINTING HIS FACE TO LOOK LIKE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR FOR CLASS PROJECT

Via The Voice

A boy, who painted his face black to dress up like Martin Luther King Jr for a class project, was taken out of school after his headteacher said it was offensive.

Sean King, a white second grade student at Meridian Ranch Elementary in Colorado Springs, was asked to remove the makeup because it was deemed ‘disrespectful to black people’

The schoolboy, who doesn’t understand how his costume, which also included a dark suit and bushy moustache, could offend anyone, told KRDO-TV:

“They thought it was inappropriate and it will be disrespectful to black people. And I say it’s not,”

“I like black people. It’s just a costume and I don’t want to insult anybody.”Continue Reading….

[Thanks Nessa]

Oh dear. I feel sorry for Sean King. He is innocent and I doubt he had some hidden agenda to cause possible offense. In his mind he was just dressing up to look like Martin Luther King Jr for a school project.

Your thoughts please…

  1. .His parents should have known better. Yes i feel for the guy… But someone should have told him not to do it. We live in a world where Black face is offensive. Even if it was done for a project for school. Now I’m looking forward to my boy Verbs reply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. it may have been an innocent slip up. But…. he should simply have been educated on blackface and I am sure he would remove it. but I do not know why he has gone to the media.

The boys parents should have broken down the history for him in relation to black face or if they didn’t know it(which is highly unlikely), they should have done their own research first.

The problem here also is that whitey has been prodding us and taunting us with the stick for so long that even though this boy’s intentions may have been innocent, he may get a ruff ride from here on out.

Black face originated out of blatant racial hatred against black people and is a straight up mockery against the so called Negro, there is no other way of putting it.

  4. I don’t see nothing wrong with it his face paint doesn’t favour the typical big red lips and afro wig he actually tried his best to look like Martin without crossing the Mark in my eyes and the parents may have treaded a grey area but they do have a point Im not gonna say parents shouldnt have done it as I feel kids should be free to explore these things and the effects they may have on others and learn boundaries.

  5. I agree. I would think differently if he turned up with jet black boot polish on his face, bright red lips and then after reciting the I Have A Dream speech sang “mami mami’ and then tapped danced lol

  6. sighs!!!! .. his parents probably didnt think it was a problem or dont know the education behind blackface to be able to warn him off doing it….!!
    another day in the life of … P O T A!!

  7. How many black children who were given white historical characters to portray had their face painted? The kid didnt need the face paint, and I question the sanity of the parents who did it, took him out, of school AND then went to the press like they have done nothing wrong.

    This.

NO excuse for the parents, less for Black people actually trying to make ones either.
