MISS BLACK BRITAIN 2009 – A COMPLETE AND UTTER SHAMBLES!

bbb

The Miss Black Britain beauty pageant took place over the weekend in London, and my sources tell me that it was a complete and utter shambles.

I’ve been told that the event started 2 hours late, that the night’s host American actress Nia Long walked out in the middle of proceedings and UK artist Young Nate who had been invited to perform was asked to leave the building.

Those who were in attendance also had this to say:

Via Facebook Forum

Tantastic Sam – My group and I paid over £1100 for our supposedly VIP tickets. We were told we would get a champagne reception, canapes and front row seats. We were sitting at the back! No champagne and couldnt even buy ourselves a drink after the interval. What an absolute embarrassment. As a young black woman, I was really up for supporting our own but instead I got robbed by our own! When I tried to complain, I was told that the organisers did not want to talk to us and had then left the building! Better they would have charged everyone £35 and done. I will be going to the papers, the radio and the BBC if I do not get a response and a refund from someone soon.

Ala RaneyThe organiser of this competition did not even have the decency to thank the other contestants who took part, instead she walked past them. The show was two hours late, Nia Long did not look impressed, and to be honest this competition took advantage of young women and was just a money making scam. 50 girls in the final each paying £200 sponser fee which to me sounds like they just needed enough girls to pay for Nia Longs fee.

Zoe Briggs – This whole competition is an absolute piece of rubbish. I am thankful to God for allowing me to be in this competition however I am highly unimpressed with the way the whole compettion was organised. WE Contestants were made to wait in the reception for at least two hours, and the organiser did not arrive until much later in the day. However it was blamed on the fact that there were train delays, which is totally understandable but how on earth did we then manage to get there before the organiser herself? She came and just casually said ‘Oh did you guys get delayed as well’?

We didn’t get anything to eat, instead we had to contribute £3.00 if we wanted KFC. So if we didn’t contribute £3.00 we couldnt eat. We didn’t rehearse till the last 45 mins so everything was chaotic. So much pressure was put on us girls to find sponsors not knowing it wasn’t even that necessary when some people were allowed to not have sponsors just because they couldn’t find one. To make maters worst the sponsor had to pay £200.00. Texting cost £1.00. It was said that the five girls with the highest number of votes would be fast tracked to the final round. I wonder when and how that was counted/organised to come to a final decision. People were made to wait outside including my pregnant aunty. The whole thing was disorganised from start to finish.

Tara Nelson – This is going in to the newspapers,  TV, Yahoo Group. MISS BLACK BRITAIN Has done this before. and this time was REALLY BAD the worst one!! WRONG MOVE this TIME. MISS BB is OVER. ”ALL I’M SAYING EVERYONE WILL GET THEIR MONEY BACK” in a legal WAY… PROMISE!

The organiser should be ashamed of herself!

But the sad thing is none of this surprises me…..

We need to do better people!!!!

Who won this year?

  1. my niece took part in the competition and i was totally appalled by the way it was organised. We had to travel from b’ham total waste of time and money. plus i dont think the comp should be judged on votes as this is not fair and not representing the girls who could not get enough votes

  2. this years miss black britain was a disgrace… not a single full beautiful dark skinned contestant was even named runner up let alone winner… absolutly appauling the organisers should be ashamed

  3. The Miss Black Britian event 2009 was an over priced, disorganished, waste of a good Saturday night. The event was two hours late. The artist were miming. Why wasn’t a sound check done before the show started. Microphones were not working. It Is a theatre for crying out loud. Everything should have been perfect. Two of the alledged judges had double booked themselves and had to leave after the models had just started. I am not surprised Nia Long was not impressed and left half way through the contest. with no explanation. Next year the event should be called Miss Mixed Race Britain 2010. that title would be more appropriate. What sort of message is that sending out to our young women. Black is not beautiful. you MUST be light skinned and have long hair before you get recognition. There were lots of very beautiful BLACK young ladies who were intelligent and articulate. They did not stand a chance. i demand a full refund. One for being robbed of the true winner for the contest and paying to see Nia Long

  4. Yes, we should be surprised. This event has been going since 2005 so by now they should have gotten their act together. It doesn’t take a lot to put on a good event if you have the right team behind you.

I went to Miss Flavour 2009 at Cafe de Paris, the same week on the Wednesday before. This event was extremely well organised, the stage production was immaculate and all the contestants looked like they had fun. So if they can do a great job I’m sure that Miss Black Britain can too.

Maybe somebody else should step up to the plate and take over the reigns of Miss BB and organise it properly.

  5. shameful, just shameful, is there any hope at all for black events that…

    1 run on time

2 are organised and executed professionally

3 have other food on other rather than fried chicken, LOL…

4 don’t leave you feeling like you have been robbed by some dirty crook!

I was actually hoping this would be a good look, but nah, what was I thinking!…

    any pics of contestants? 😉

  6. Good Lord I had no idea this event was so shambolic!!! I find this really disgraceful!!! I think the whole of the black media/fashion environment needs to change…and it needs to change now!!!

Black people need to buck up their ideas it seems, instead of showing ourselves up like this!!! This laid back attitude is so over!!! Something like this needs to be organized months in advanced and good communication is needed at all times!!! It’s no wonder that “white advertisers do not want to be associated with out publications due to the lack of plain competence!!!

  7. Lordy, Lordy, Lordy – Why is it always us??? Some of us always want to cut corners and not organise an event or anything properly. Damn it man when are these stupid fools going to learn??

Nia Long has probably gone back home cussing about us to her friends saying “those niggers in UK cant organise shit”

Iam gonna find this idiot organiser girl online and cuss her Niaja style!!! LOL

  8. Well well I had my outfit made for the damn event I paid £95 to sit at the front VIP style YEAH Right my friends and I had to sit at the back , we couldn’t hear anything the sound quality was rubbish the micro phone was not working, Nia Long left 1 hour after the event started I didn’t even hear her speak, the staff was very unhelpful they didn’t even know WHO they was working for and when I asked the dumb cow replied “I don’t know I’m just here to look pretty” bloody idiot lol.
Point is the night was terrible such a waste of money and time I wish I never went I have never been treated so badly this by far was the worst event I ever attended TRUST ME . I’m ashamed that this was a black event I WANT A FULL REFUND
Whoever the person is that arranged this please do us all a favour and get a day job !!!

  9. This is totallly disgraceful. I have heard negative stories about Miss Black Britain before and I would have thought that after four years they would be able to get their act together and organise a decent event. Treating the paying models and paying audience like scum really sickens me. Have you not heard of customer service or common decency? BIG SIGH!! This is so disheartening. If you can’t do it right then don’t do it all.

  10. WE GOT TO DO BETTER!!! NO…Should I Say THE ORGANISER has to do better!!

Kojo warned people last year that the event was a fix, the organiser a crook and advised everyone to boycott the event…google the vid!

Its such a shame that someone can take the hopes and dreams of these young girls and expolit them to the fullest for financial gain. On another note, to the girls entering this competiton or thinking of entering please think twice, there will only be one winner, and the winner has been chosen from the jump!! SMDH!

  11. What a complete and utter load of rubbish, once again Black people have let themselves down again. The contestants were put through so much rubbish from start to finish this whole competition is a whole load of nonsense. The Organiser herself ANEKA JOHNSON has not even taken full responsibility for the outrage she caused amongst the people involved in this. She has kept silence and has not even spoken out to justify herself or make things better, it shows how much of a coward she is and it also shows she knows what she has done. It is so disgraceful that the contestants were made to find sponsers who had to pay £200 pounds, I feel like I have been robbed. To make matters worse tickets cost 30 pounds upwards, people were robbed, the whole structure backstage was chaotic. The day before which was the dress fitting Aneka herself was not even there to oversee things, seeing as she is the organiser herself she has let her role down. To make matters worse the Judging panel were not even serious they were all over the place looking lost not even knowing how to Judge. Aneka herself said she will be a Judge she ended up not even being a Judge instead she put unprofessional waste of time people there to Judge something that they are not even convesant with. Nia Long was so disgusted she walked out, who can blame her. Pens were not even being put to paper whilst the girls were walking out, so what on earth were they even Judging. Some of the questions were so silly ‘who won Miss England 2009? I mean what can a Judge extract from an answer like that to find out about the contestant? During the question time the contestants were made to stand in between Hannah and Rachael not even infront of the Judging panel. Most Girls spoke so well and so articulate yet they were not even chosen to be in the final 20, instead some girls who stuttered and said they didn’t know where chosen. This just goes to prove how we BLACKS can never do anything right. The support that the girls got from ANEKA was rubbish, we were made to feel like we were some money making object. She has been to hell and back trying to make this event work yet the whole layout of the show seemed like it was organised an hour before.

    ABSOLUTE RUBBISH.

  12. I did see that blog kojo did last year and still inocent women have enterd again this year for it to we worse than last year. The contestants need to research these competitions before they enter them and loose all their money. It will be back again next year because people don’t learn. As long as there are more stupid girls giving the organiser money it will be on again. Fuck Miss Black Britain!

  13. WOOOOOW. i took part last year and didnt have to pay no £200 to do anyting. lool it was however not organised were we had to gt dressed ws like a classroom we had to gt our own food and the space gap btw the time the show started to the time we were told to leave the buildin after rehearsels was too big for gurls that didnt live in london, so some had to book a hotel. toooo many gurls were put thru the dayum show anyway come on and last year the way the winner was choosin ws jus too dayum wierd. bt hey she did a good job snm. the organisers shud ave LEARNT from thier mistakes already last yr started late too, gurls were treated unfairly and now this yr thier chargin for u to be in the competition onli to give a SHIT show in a theatre jus like last yr makes u wonder what r they doin wit all that money apart from payin themselves. hmph nt impressed at all no wonder ppl curse out miss black britain i dnt even say i took part in it at all cos its jus DISGRACEFUL and very dissapointed and dont tink they shud do it ANYMRE or the organisers shud jus quit n give it to a more organised group cos she is jus DISGRACING the black community. coming late to rehearsels… leavin early … demandin us to fix our times bt nt fix hers KMFT very annoyed actually useless organisers. all a SCAM to gt ppls money. Onli for them to start swayin away from black women n makin it mixed race women dont gt me wrong black comes in all shades bt mixed race is nt a shade of black its MIXED race. bt at the same time they r part black to ave a right to be in the competion bt its gttin silly how most of the gurls r mixed race in the comp n nt many dark skinned at all smh

  14. Well what can I say! I was one of the guests at that “SHAMBOLIC AND UNPROFESSIONAL” show (That is if you can call it a show).which hey had the nerve to call “MISS BLACK BRITAIN” WE WERE HIJACKED AND ROBBED SHAMELESSLY.
I didn’t mind shelling out my £95.00, because I thought we were supporting my Black Sister’s who were trying to get ahead in the modelling and Beauty industry.
I arrived with my party nice and early, to take full advantage of what the promoter promised on the ticket. Champagne, canape, Front seat and Celebrity judges etc.
“WHAT A JOKE”(and I am not laughing) “IT WAS THE PITS”
From the moment we got to the door and was told “YOU’RE NOT ON THE LIST.
We knew things was going to get much, much worse, and it did.
“SEVEN PEOPLE AND SIX SEATS” and no one who could explain or sort it out.
The show started two hours late, and my niece still had no where to sit.
Then the judges started disappearing one by one. Obviously afraid to be associated with the whole unprofessional mess.
“THESE PEOPLE ARE PROFESSIONAL THEIVES”, and something needs be done about them.
I will be very reluctant to even contemplate going to one of these events again.

  15. I was actually supposed to attend this even but decided against it!..It appears my instincts were correct..however it is another sad day for black ppl everywhere..it just ridicules us as a people..we work hard to fight inequality but yet when we are given an opportunity to deliver we are more likely to fall short of what is expected!..Why is that? Perhaps it’s because some of our motives are never genuine in the first place? We are more interested in showing off to each other than delivering what is expected..the stupid thing is..if they had taken a bit more time and effort..they could be looking forward to an even more successful show next time!..Shame on them..sometimes they make Black People look incompetent!

  16. o.m.g i am soo ashamed to say i am black now… becuz my friend was one of the contestantz and i woz soo happy and proud of her.. i woz even proud of the people that hosts it becuz it shows that we black do have pride and are ambitious buh.. as usual itz all a disgrace… shameful… kmt

  17. MISS BLACK BRITAIN IS 419 IN DISGUISE I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS ANGRY. EVERYTHING THAT I WANT TO SAY HAS ALREADY BEEN SAID AND MORE. IT’S QUITE SAD REALLY AND PRAY TO GOD THAT JUSTICE WILL BE DONE.

  18. WTF EVEN A WHITE PERSON WOULD DO BETTER JOB ORGANINZING THE DAMN EVENT. PLEASEEEE!!!! EVERY BODY THAT HAS MADE A COMMENT GO ON FACEBOOK SEARCH MISS BLACK BRITAIN JOIN THE GROUP AND ABSOLUTELY LET RIP WITH HOW DISGUSTED YOU GUYS ARE SO THAT THE STUPID ORGANIZER CAN SEE THESE COMMENTS AND HANG HER HEAD IN SHAME SHE IS A DISGRACE A COMPLETE AND UTTER DISGRACE TO BLACK PEOPLE SHE IS SUPPOSE TO BE HELPING US BLACK PEOPLE WITH AN EVENT LIKE THIS AND ITS FLOPPED!!!!!!!! BACK 2 SQUARE 1 ANEKA JOHNSON SOOOOO INCOMPOTENT CAN’T EVEN APOLOGIZE FOR WHAT SHE HAS CAUSED. I WAS SITTING NEAR SOME WHITE FOLKS IN THE EVENT AND YOU CAN TELL BY THE EXPRESSION ON THEIR FACES THAT THEY WERE NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL. PROBABLY SAYING IN THEIR HEADS “BLACK PEOPLE CAN’T DO ANYTHING” MISS BLACK BRITAIN NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN AND ANEKA NEEDS TO BE REMOVED AS THE FOUNDER. ALL SHE HAS DONE IS CAUSE SOOOOOO MUCH CONFUSION AND CONTROVERSY AMONGST THE BLACK COMMUNITY. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE AGAINST MISS BRITAIN NOW BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME PEOPLE WHO THINK ITS A GOOD EVENT AND NOW THESE PEOPLE ARE CUSSIN EACHOTHER OVER FACEBOOK DEBATING WHETHER THE WINNER IS BLACK OR NOT. ITS ALL HER FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for such an appalling night. I’ll tell you some of what happened backstage: 50 contestants, a large number of make-up artists, the designers, yet ANEKA (the OWNER and ‘organizer’…sorry DISORGANIZER) is missing. The head make-up artist became the ‘backstage’ manager and people were asked to chip in as THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH STAFF. Her ‘assistant’s excuse for not knowing what was going on was that she ‘works part-time’. Correct…so correct. It takes a person with SUBSTANCE to see the importance of having suitably trained and AVAILABLE staff on hand.

There is no excuse for this being soooo shocking on the basis of it being a ‘black’ thing. Colour SHOULD NOT come into the basic human organisational attributes required to make things happen successfully. PLANNING is key. Isn’t that right ANEKA??? (Like she’d know)

I don’t blame Nia Long for leaving. I actually think it was GOOD that she left half way through as opposed to in the beginning because it makes a bigger statement. Sooooo many people now want to disassociate themselves from this event. The CONTESTANTS, DESIGNERS, NIA LONG…were all MISLEAD. Thank goodness all have washed their hands of this crap!

As for finding them on Facebook…GOOD LUCK!!! The Facebook group/fan page is now on a REQUEST TO JOIN basis! “Privacy type:
Closed: Limited public content. Members can see all content.” I WONDER WHY…

  20. I cannot believe this happened. My firend took part int he competition think it was a stand up event when all along it was some sort of scam. iT TRULY SADDENS ME to see BLACK people do this to themselves. Pretending that you are professional by organising an event and then treating it like a houe party and making it unorganised. Shame on teh people who did this. They need to get sued because stuff like this is totally unfair to the people who were serious about the competition.

  21. For those of you that don’t know – The Miss Flavour beauty pageant run by Flavour Magazine was amazing and I must say a pleasure to watch and be there.

These guys really pulled out the stops, if you dont not believe the check out the link and see for yourself – http://www.flavourmag.co.uk/?p=6338

Big UP to Flavour Magazine leading the way on how things should be done…

BTW im not a part of Flavour but get fed-up when been labelled as black, when all you have to do is look a bit further and you will see the real deal.

  22. Despite the huge contrast in the production of these two conceptually similar shows, it’s saddening, that as usual, bad news carries longer and louder than good. I commend the Flavour team on their excellent event, but you just know which event is going to be talked about and remembered most…

As has been pointed out, the FB group is now invite only and the Twitter account appears to have been shut down also, which says a lot about the real character of the people responsible. It’s a real shame.

  23. Er…..I am confused. What did people expect???? Why should Aneka the organiser apologise???

These types of events are good way too make a quick buck, hell why didn’t I think of doing this myself. Aneka and her crew must have pocketed at least 100 grand or more….
50 contestants all paying £200 each thats £10,000, that alone can buy me nice clothes and pay off my debts….
And to think that some people shelved out £95.00 for a ticket, imagine if 1000 people bought it at that price thats £95,000…..HELL I WOULD BE GOING ON HOLIDAY MATE…which I think is where Aneka is at right about now…..

Imagine how many other people are out there that think like me??? Hmmmm……Scary……..
Please people don’t be sucked into these stupid events….that promote what exactly?????

  24. LETS ALL WRITE TO NEWSPAPER, RADIO STATIONS TO MAKE SURE THESE EVNT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN. SO MANY WOMEN, PEOPLE, BUSINESSES WERE EXPLOITED!! MONEY WAS SUPPOSE TO GO TO THE CHARITY ‘ BECAUSE I AM A GIRL’ !!! SHE NEEDS TO BE SUED

    ANEKA JOHNSON- 07917297996

  25. Yes I have noticed the facebook group has been closed down! What should happen is a new facebook group should be started titled

BOYCOTT ANEKA JOHNSON’S MISS BLACK BRITAIN!!

And any other events she holds, coz i’m sure she’l have other things in the pipeline, isn’t there supposed to be a “MR BLACK BRITAIN!!”

Fellas, if your thinking of entering “MR BLACK BRITAIN!!”….DON’T!!!

Unless people actually make themselves heard, expect all this again next year! And if another Miss Black Britain is held next year by aneka n co, everyone that has been scammed and that thinks its an outrage, should turn up outside the event in protest and make sure an investigative journalist that campaigns against rogue traders, watchdog, trading standards and any other consumer protection body is present to tackle Miss Johnson about her scam!! She couldn’t wriggle out of that one could she!!!

It’s quite clear that MISSBB is nothing but a SCAM and the organiser a teeef, there’s no integrity behind this event. SMDH!!!

  26. You guys need an address, or close friend to interrogate for her whereabouts. Catch her and beat that money out, you’ll are black after all, the white way is what she’s probably expecting and is soo long. It seems like she knew exactly what she was doing and didn’t plan on doing a Miss BB 2010. I’d catch her before she leaves for paradise.

  27. @ G man – I totally agree with you, its a real shame that you are all here commented on the negativity of Miss Black Britain, not that I blame you in anyway or form for your comments because I can know how you feel and what you mean and yes it was a total shambles and disrespect to us the customers and supporters.

Without sounding like a die hard fan of Miss Flavour, as G man said Miss Black Britain will be remembered whether it be famous or infamous. I challenge you all to go to http://www.flavourmag.co.uk/?p=6338 and let’s push the people that try to do better as hard as we stone the ones that dont.

Comments and views spark dicussion and debate – I just think we all need to put the same effort into the good as well as the bad…

They say no news spreads like bad news

    Asha

  28. this event was an absalute disgrace, aneka should be ashamed of her self, my 6 year old necie could organise a better event. this competition needs to be shut down. theres no way your gona be able to get hold of aneka, she’s not even dealing with complaints, her slaves that dont get paid are. the only person that was paid to do that event was aneka, she is a disgusting excuse for a black woman, and she has brought the black community back down into the gutter. WHAT A SHAMBLES, SACK HER

  29. To Miss Black Britain Team & Also the ladies who took part

First of all I would like to say that to all the ladies who took part in Miss BB. it was a pleasure to meet such positive, black women and please feel free to get at me on Facebook. Also congratulations to the winner!

    To Miss Black Britain team

( I am speaking for some of the models)

After the email that you have sent everyone regarding why the night was so badly organised I feel is an excuse. Half of us in the competition lived outside if London, travelled for hours and managed to get to the venue at a reasonable time, so did our family, friends and sponsors. Many of us have spent alot of time, effort and money, especially when you consider travelling cost and hotel that many of us had to pay for out of our own pockets and for the event to turn out how it did was shameful.

The fact that we were left out in the rain was really an insult to us as women and people and shows you had know disregard for us at all as no contact was made despite some of us trying to call you. Not even refreshments were provided but instead we rallied up some money and one of the ladies from your team kindly went of her own accord. Although I won’t mention your name, we all know who you are and we were grateful for this!

3 of the 6 judges left the judging panel half way, and the fact that you misled the public and ourselves regarding Nia Long hosting the event is just as bad. She didn’t say even one word and not surprised to be honest.

I embarrassed for all my sponsor, families and friends who travelled for hours to witness this event. Our Sponsors names couldnot even be seen on the Sash and some companies were even spelt wrong. They were not even mentioned on the night

‘Because I am a girl’ charity was not even mention, which leads me to question how much money will be given to them. I think all models have a right to know considering it was out Sponsors that contributed this money.

I have just received an email from Jennifer Burns and if what she said is true and that the top 20 text votes were chosen to determine the winner then I can honestly say that you stole from all the models and sponsors and something needs to be done!!

It is so sad that an event such as this that is suppose to empower Black women, Black business and unite us as a community is ending like this. Models of colour have it hard enough to be taken seriously in this modeling industry without something such as this happening and bringing us down

Feel free to respond to all the models.

    Thanks

  30. Miss Black Britain

There is not much more to say as the previous 2 girls have raised most issues and I agree 100% with them

Although I do have to say the email you sent out as an ‘apology’ was actually pathetic! ‘Saturday evening was a very stressful evening for all members of the Miss BB Team’ the MissBB Team??? The only ‘TEAM’ I saw was Denise and Aneeka’s sister who appeared now and again…WHAT ABOUT THE CONTESTANTS?? What about the fact that we was sat waiting for over 2 HOURS for you organisers to arrive (which would have been in the freezing cold in the rain if the builders weren’t polite enough to let us in the reception!) With no communication! No phone call to say ‘sorry girls where running late’ instead we get an answer machine!! What about the fact that we was STARVED and had to pay £3 for 1 PIECE OF CHICKEN AND CHIPS and some people who did put money in didn’t even get any!! And we all know the lord mayors show was planned from a very long time ago so as for your ‘ months of endless planning and efforts’ goes… well I’m not sure what is was you spent months doing. Half of us were not from London Inc me and I stayed on the other side of London but I still got to the place fine and ON TIME so im finding it very hard to believe that people situated in London could not find alternative routes to the building! You put endless amount of stress on all contestants, hair stylists n make up artists who also had limited time!
DUE TO PLAYING CATCH UP??? Im sorry whose fault was that because WE (contestants) were on time. This competition was unfair WHY because we was stressed angry rushed starved and had no rehearsal im actually surprised someone did not faint on the night.

‘All have you have attended the heats and the castings for Miss Black Britain and there is no doubt that our standards are a fully professional, these were very unfortunate circumstances for us’
Thank you, your vote has beem counted -You got supporters laughing at you

Sorry did you just use professional in that sentence? (Please check your grammar) Correct me if im wrong were you not LATE starting and arriving at the castings and the call backs. Not sure what happened in the London heats but I think the Nottingham ones were ok- congrats on that.

Now regarding the CHARITY that was NEVER mentioned – Im sure one of the prizes was to be ambassador of this charity, was it not? Although this was not listed when the host read it out (who was he by the way didn’t look like Nia Long or Ainsley to me)

This is a paragraph from a previous message sent from MissBB
    The sponsor will gain the following benefits as follows;
    • Name of sponsor to appear on the contestants sash at the live final – ok this was achieved
    • Name and logo of sponsor in association with their sponsored contestant on the Miss Black Britain website: http://www.missblackbritain.co.uk/contestants with a hyperlink to the sponsors’ website – I did not see any sponsors names on the website CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG
    • Two tickets to the final of Miss Black Britain final 2009 in London – As far as im aware my sponsor DID NOT receive any tickets
    • Photograph of the contestant bearing the sponsors name on their sash. This photo can be used for promotional purposes for the sponsor. Im sorry did any girl get photographed for this purpose??? Oh I know probably due to tight schedule, right?

I WANT MY SPONSERS MONEY BACK INC THE PART THAT WENT TO THE CHARITY THAT WASNT EVEN GOOD ENOUGH TO BE MENTIONED.

This contest IS a good idea BUT you are not organised enough to carry it out! 3 years running and it still managed to turn out a shambles?

GOOD LUCK TO RIKAYA I HOPE THEY ARE MORE ORGANISED WHEN IT COMES TO FORFILLING YOUR DREAMS

AND TO ALL THE OTHER CONTESTANTS YOUR ALL AMAZING AND I MADE SOME GREAT FRIENDS- YOUVE MADE THIS COMPETITION SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT =)

  31. Dear Miss Black Britain Team.

I am speaking from experience when I say that myself and my Team members (Broken Silence) have organised previous talent shows in the past starting in 2005 and we as a TEAM always know when, where and what would cause a disruption on that particular day, therefore we have done our home work. The issue of the Mayor parade causing all the disruption and making the event a shambles is completely a lie, that I Nordia James will not buy into, the organisers of MBB should have known this because the Mayor Parade was advertised in September in the Guardian and online!

Never in my life when competing in a competition have I felt like all my efforts have been made in vain. We the contestants were at the venue at a reasonable time, some took taxis, trains and ran across roads to get to the venue. We were left waiting in an unknown reception for numerous amounts of hours and then taken in the pouring rain, around a corner into an entrance only to be told to wait again, No one had a clue what was going on and no one came to us to explain what was going on. Your team members were all unknown, therefore we the contestants didn’t have a clue of who was who apart from one young lady Denise (who obviously was not brief because she didn’t have any idea what happened next). Where was Paida, Sorry who was Paida?

As for the issue of FOOD!! Well I shouldn’t be surprise because from the BEGINING of this competition we as the contestants were not even given a class of water. Therefore you saying FOOD couldn’t get to the venue because of access to the building, I find that rather difficult to believe you had no intention of providing FOOD!

I felt ashamed that a BIG HOLLYWOOD STAR had to witness such monstrosity it was
most definitely not what it was said to be on the packet, it was like ordering “LOBSTER” at a well known restaurant and the waiter brought out “FISH FINGERS”, all the planning seemed rather lackadaisical.

Now the seating arrangement did someone say “VIP” My sponsor who paid money into this competition and it did state in one of the emails that they would receive VIP seating, Champaign reception did not get either. They sat in the same row as my boyfriend who paid for the standard seating now am I missing something………………………..?

Miss Black Britain is a name that should not have been associated with the event on the 14 November. People paid money to see a well organised show and what they received was a cross between a lecture room/ game show. The reason being is that the audience was shouting out the answers to the contestants on stage, I know that this probably could not have been helped, however a HOST is someone that takes charge of the show i.e. also the audience members, what should have happened is that someone one should have said to the audience “Please no interruptions whilst the contestants answer the questions” This brings me to the questions, how was the competition judged because if it was based on how you answered the questions then that was unfair, who in God’s name (no disrespect) wrote those questions for a live final because I am really hoping you are going to tell me that it was a monkey in the backroom writing it……………..? How on earth can you compare a question like “what is your favourite asset”? In comparison to “what are your views about global warming”?

To say I am disappointed is an understatement, I am more ashamed that these 50 Beautiful, intelligent girls some as young as 17 had their efforts swiped away because no one cared enough to at least acknowledge their needs on the night. You, Aneka didn’t have the DECENCY to THANK or even APOLOGISE to the audience, guest, hosts or contestants, for this I am truly disheartened. I was left with the question in my mind “What does Miss Black Britain Stand for…………………………………?

Congratulations RIKAYA on your success. I am wishing you all the best for the future.

Well done to all other contestants for your efforts I hope also that all of you will do well in the future. Let this be a lesson to us all.

    Kindest Regards

    Nordia James

  32. I was not impressed at all… I feel Miss Black Britain was using false advertising to get ppl to come and watch the show…ie Nia Long host the show, from what i saw she was sitting down looking very unimpresed also she walked out half way..

the show was shambolic..i want me money back.

  36. I took part in this competition and i should of listened to my mum from the start. It was a total con. I mean which competition has 50 girls in the final each charging them £200 in total £10,000. Lets start from the begining, MissBB charged £10 for the casting of around 200 women, so we had to pay to be told whether of not we have made it through. It started at 12noon, they said be on time, i did not get seen till 7pm that night thats how unorganised it was. Then at the Semi finals the show was 2 hours late, not even a glass of water offered to the girls, then at the finals we were lefted in the rain, was not offered anything to eat all day, rehearsed 15 minitues before the show was about to start at 7 (i looked at my watch) was rushed to get dressed, i remember at one stage i hardly had on my bikini and one of the organisers rushed me onto the stage, they just did not care. The sponsors was not even promoted on the night. The judges left, what kind of standards is this, its awful. they have took advantage of young women, and used them to make money from.

  37. Miss black britain was a total disgrace. As i personally myself felt like this was not a competetion. My reason for believing this is. 20 people were selected by votes so there was no need to be 50 finalist. It was stated that only 5 girls wud go through for bein fast tracked. When they announced the top twenty there were people who should have been in there but wernt. There was neva a competion it was a fix . N it needs looking into.aswell as all the complications. This event was a total joke

  38. These organisers knew exactly what they have done. I have been in contact with consumer advice today we need to send written letters of complaints on at first instance we need someone to give us a contact address of Miss Black Britain 2009
If anyone has contact address of the makeup artists, the artists who performed any other judges anyone associated, the presenters we need their contact details it appears all the organisers have gone underground any one who has any information of anyone associated with this event really needs to come forward you can do in private

In order to collect complaints for those who may feel less able to be vocal about their concerns You can email me personally at davinacrawford@rocketmail.com

I have also contacted the Voice today I believe other people should do the same

    The complaints cover many areas
Ticket sold under the Sale of good Act not as advertised
The Treatment of the young ladies is another issue
And the text voting another issue

First instance all of you need to write a letter of complaint
I have contacted ticket web if you on line there is a place where can complain there also they will respond within a week
Also contact your credit card companies some may refund for you

This is a very sad state of affairs please don’t get sucked into the arguments of “Blackness “now that are being posted this is a way to divide you stay focussed and ensure that the event organisers will not be able to do this again or repeat this event.

  39. yeah 50 girls in the finals, not even Miss England has 50 in thier finals. And it was a fix, they did not go for who they thought would be a role model they fixed it on the text votes. Oh course the more people you know and the bigger your family is, you will obviously get more votes because you have more people supporting you which i do not think is fair, you could have 1000 votes compared to someone who has 10 but this does not mean you are a better role model than that other person. This aint no Miss Black Britain competition, if it was, it would empower black women instead it has disempowered them and to make it worst Aneka is not bothad, she has shown no remorse. She has made her money from the vulnerable contestants who she did not care about. Not even a glass of water was offered to the contestants, someone nearly fainted and they left the girls out in the rain. To make it worst each girl payed £200 sponsor fee, remember there were 50 girls and a percentage is meant to go to a charity but when another contestant contacted teh charity they did not know or have ever heard of Miss Black Britain. So my question is where has this money gone?

  40. Well well well what a surprise last year was just as bad infact a guest was slapped in his face by the organsisers mother. I was disgusted this man got up out of his VIP seat which he had paid for to get a drink and this women decided that she was going to sit there whe this pleaded with her she slapped him in his face.

This man was of good interigity because he did not lift a hand to this women secruity found him a better seat.

I am not sure really what this competition is all about someone else needs to organise this with some professionlism.

  41. I thought i would read up on the winner of the beauty contest as i was one of the team members back stage…Im soooo unhappy to read all the sad comments and how badly organised the event realy was, yes the girls were running late(not to their own fault..bless their nervous hearts they were all ready and looking stunning..its not easy to look beautiful, compose yourself and walk in heals that could break your neck)…but its a real shame, as i know back stage everyone was rushing around helping out..it is a shame that the event didnt go as well as expected…im really unhappy to read all these comments..i hope the event organisers do get their act together and refund peoples money..

  42. Yeap i defo agree, and plus at 1pm on the day of the live finals, the top 5 girls was already annoused before the competition even started it is not fair as i said to someone else it just took advantage of young women which is a shame as i thought it was meant to encourage you women. Miss Black Britain is not a competition that i will ever be supporting. It claims to be professional but it is not, i have never seen so many people upset about an event like this.

  43. Im know glad i was not choosen’ in the first auditons’

I hope everyone gets there money back’

just sad i gave them the casting fee of £10.

I hope this is the END FOR THEM’ AND THERE RUBBISH’

get rid of ANEKA ‘S CRAP RIP OFF CONTEST.

  44. As one of the people that attempted to help Anneka for the show and on the day. However she totally took the piss out of us, did not brief us on the day, kept all the information on what was meant to be happening on the night, treated all of us like SHIT, there was no communication, no form of payment, not even thank you till this day and totally stayed back stage the whole night making us look stupid the whole night. I am totally embarrassed to say that I was even in the building that day. Anneka has totally gone into hiding and is nowhere to be found……she is an embarrasment to Black women all over the world. I just pray to God that I don’t bump into her anytime soon cause there will be hell to pay!

  45. im so sorry for all you girls and people who helped out backstage for what aneka did .As a contestant myself I feel for u guys.i was so pissed off that I couldn’t make it to the finals because of a family commitment and I actally thought about applying nxt year. . . .Im sorry to say this but all the signs that there was something fishy going on was there from the beginning.

1)we are told that we have been selected to go to a casting for miss black britain and that if we have any queries we should contact the MBBT(Miss Black Britain Team) = I called that number at LEAST 3 times and I Always received the same person on the phone’Aneka’or whatever she calls herself.THERE WAS NO MISS BLACK BRIATIN TEAM.

2)We are forced to pay £10 to attend the casting, there were at least 200 girls that attended.Interesting.so that would make about a £2000 already profit already pocketed.never the mind that we didn’t get a drop of water on the day, wich brings me to my next point.

3)after being seen by the ‘panel of judges’ we are told that we can go ‘upstairs’ to go and get some ‘refreshments’ the whole group was wondering around the bar wondering around the place trying to find this place.like idiots,we are then told by the guy working at the bar that ther is no ‘upstairs’ room.funny dat.but of course we could buy a drink at the bar if we wished.typical

4)i don’t know about evryone else but the only ‘panel of judges’ me and my group were seen by was Aneka and some other woman who didn’t even have a clipboard but just sat there quitely.

5)who was the person calling the people in the waiting room to be seen =Aneka again

6)michal the guy who was perceived as being her ‘assistant’ also turns out be her BROTHER.

the whole thing was a setup ,Its been a one woman show all along ,there was no miss black britain team.
All you girls are beautifull and shouldn’t even think about giving up modelling.
Il definetely be apllying next year,il be telling evryone what happened this year, well see how many people would pay for sponsorship money at the cost of £200.jeeeez . I hope u girls get ur money back cos thats Broad day light ROBBERY

  46. I hope people’ find her’ and she is made to pay back the MONEY’ SHE STOLE. THE BLOODY’ THIEVING’ B@%*”

  47. There are many bad aspects to how it was organised the girls having to pay £200 etc, but the fact that I read that it was all in the name of a charity but when they were contacted they hadn’t heard of her that is the lowest of the low and not to mention, illegal!

  48. I KNOW I WILL BE MAKING sure The ofice of fair trading gets to know about this and gets as much information on these people as possible please email me details if any one knows about the charity I am still awaiting confirmationfrom the charity this is Fraud and we should be contacting the Police also

    davinacrawford@rocketmail.com

  49. Update I have spoken tp the charity this morning and I can conform that the charity did get some money from them ” Beacause I am a girl ” but there is no agreement that Miss Black Britain 2009 will be an ambassordor to this charity or fore front it any way

email me of you need any more information
    davinacrawford@rocketmail.com

  50. Whether or not they gave the charity money Miss Black Britain was still a fix, the winner was chosen by the highest text votes which is not fair to the other girls who put so much effort into the competition, who prepared thier answers ect. Just because the winner had the highest votes, it does not determined that she will be a perfect role model, there were many young attractive black females who did not have the chance because it was fixed to text votes. WHAT WAS THE POINT FOR HAVING JUDGES. This competition has taken advantage of young black women, Aneka does and did not care about anyone of the contestants. She is not a black women that i will be looking up to, aneka should put herself in the situation and think about how she would feel is she was treated this way. No offence but the competition was aimed to find a Miss Black britain but it did not meet its objective, the winner was not black. Aneka said that she wants to promote black models/women but she does not look to acheive this, instead she focuses on teh money and fixes the competition to teh highest votes. I seen many black contestants in the comp, that were as pretty if not prettier as the winner, who were also tall, had good model figuire’s, gave wonderful answers and was in University, who had alot of potential. Plus on the day on the comp i went on the website and the top 5 girls had already been chosen before the show started could anyone explain?

  51. yes i agree but we have to clarify what we are complaining about I have been doing my research we have to make clear statements of what we are saying was wrong about the copmpetition we have to ensure what we are saying we can prove I have been in touch with trading standards any of the girls can email me and i wll give them all the information

  52. I think they are complaining about the sponsership and the fact that the sponsors was meant to recieve promotion on the night, thier company logo on the sash and thier company logo on the missbb website which some of the contestants paid £200 for and did not recieve. They were also treated badly on the night such as no food being provided for them, false information/advertising such as Nia Long hosting the show and the fact that the votes were not being counted effectively for people to see how many votes each contestant had. It was not a fair contest as we all know. Miss black britain should be banned. Aneka aint even an attractive black women, she is a thief.
