UK MUSIC: SMILER – ENZA

Check South London rapper Smiler’s new single Enza. The Video – “Urban” music video directors in this country really need to step their games up! Sitting down watching old US Hip Hop videos made in the late 1990s / early 2000s and then reusing a now dated concept (women prancing around in bikinis, shiny jewellery, expensive cars, a big house, party scene, swimming pool, rapper and his cronies standing around looking ‘cool’) simply won’t cut it in 2010. Also why is  Smiler []

UK MUSIC: MIKEL AMEEN – TAG TAG 2 BANG BANG

Mikel Ameen is related to actor Aml Ameen, I think he might be his younger brother. Anyway Mikel, like so many others out there these days, is an aspiring rapper and recently dropped the track Tag Tag 2 Bang  Bang. Check out the video below. I thought we had moved on from the old tired council estate back drops in videos? And who is that guy standing next to him/trailing behind him? Why is he there? What is his purpose? The video gets a thumbs down from []

TY ‘EMOTIONS’ SINGLE OUT NOW / ‘SOMETHING BIG’ MIXTAPE

To celebrate the official release of “Emotions” featuring Sarina Leah and Shaun Escoffery, the debut single from UK hip hop legend Ty’s forthcoming album “Special Kind of Fool” on BBE, DJ Bounce has put together the “Something Big! Mixtape”, featuring a diverse range of friends and collaborators from all over the world. “Emotions” is an uplifting bubbler featuring Ty’s trademark candor and inimitable flow, an infectious dance floor music track, with depth. Featuring remixes from heavyweight producers Daz-I-Kue, Waajeed, Dego (4Hero) and []

UK MUSIC: DIVAGEEK – ‘SUNDAY’

Talented songstress Vula and producer Ben Jones have come together to form DivaGeek and have released their first track, ‘Sunday’. As far as I am concerned Vula (who also sings for Basement Jaxx) should be enjoying the same solo success and support that Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone and Duffy (to name a few) have all enjoyed in this country and overseas. Industry executives should have embraced this woman years ago. Vula ain’t no joke! Vula can SING! But we all know how it works in this country…… Anyway check []

SADE TOPS US ALBUM CHART

Funny… I’ve always thought of Sade Adu as being a solo artist. I just found out today that Sade is in fact a group. I always thought it was just Sade and a backing band. Well…you learn something new everyday. Thanks Alex Via Digital Spy. Sade have topped the US album chart with their comeback album Soldier Of Love. The record, which was produced with longtime collaborator Mike Pela, sold 502,000 copies in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group, fronted by []

UK MUSIC: BASHY FT LOICK – WHEN THE SKY FALLS

When The Sky Falls is taken from the Shank film soundtrack (it’s the theme song), and also stars rapper Bashy. When The Sky Falls is no Kidulthood to Adulthood, which as far as I am concerned is Bashy’s best track to date! But the youngsters will probably like it. Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?

UK MUSIC: GIGGS FEATURING B.O.B – ‘DON’T GO THERE’

Peckham meets Atlanta folks! UK rapper Giggs teams up with Atlanta based artist B.O.B and has produced the new track Don’t Go There. The label (XL) is really pushing the ‘Giggs machine’ in 2010!  Collaborating with US artists and his album Let Em Have It is apparently set to drop in April. It’s all go! I look forward to watching the MOBO Awards performance and hearing the speech……. Anyway back to track! I like the beat and the hook. As for the video… 1xtra’s Mista Jam describes it as being an “amazing video” via his blog’. I personally []

UK MUSIC: CHOONG FAMILY – ‘GOODBYE GIRL’

I thought that this group had split up some years ago. Anyway check out Choong Family’s new track Goodbye Girl. Goodbye Girl is pleasant enough but it also sounds quite dated.   Like the folk over at Ragggs.com I find myself asking the question, “are they still living in 2004???” The video – Standard video model of choice in the UK and the ending confused me. Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?
