Check South London rapper Smiler’s new single Enza.
The Video – “Urban” music video directors in this country really need to step their games up! Sitting down watching old US Hip Hop videos made in the late 1990s / early 2000s and then reusing a now dated concept (women prancing around in bikinis, shiny jewellery, expensive cars, a big house, party scene, swimming pool, rapper and his cronies standing around looking ‘cool’) simply won’t cut it in 2010.
Also why is Smiler standing in a swimming pool, rapping, fully clothed and wearing a designer jacket with the hood up? Who came up with that ridiculous idea?
This type of music video has had its day. People over here need to stop trying to imitate what the Americans have already done. The focus should be on creating something unique, fresh, new and believable.
The Track – Smiler can rap. The man has a decent flow and does have potential. But in my opinion the weak production on Enza lets him down.
And now it’s over to you folks! Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?
