ALICIA KEYS LOSES HER “JOB” AT BLACKBERRY

Singer Alicia Keys has lost her job at Blackberry. The struggling smart phone giant announced in January 2013 that they had appointed the singing superstar as the company’s new ‘Global Creative Director’ and hoped that her appointment to the post would help “inspire the future” of the company. FRESH PRINCE STAR JAMES AVERY DIES

Actor James Avery who played Phillip Banks (‘uncle Phil’) in the hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bell Air has died. He was 65 years old. Avery’s publicist told Sky News he died from complications following open-heart surgery in Glendale, California, on Tuesday afternoon. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara, his mother, Florence Avery, and his step-son, Kevin Waters. Rest In Peace James Avery.

JAMAICAN ANIMATION COMPANY TO PRODUCE DISNEY, NICKELODEON CARTOON

The Jamaica Gleaner reports that  Reel Rock GSW Animation Limited, a Jamaican animation company, has announced that it will be co-producing a cartoon series aired on the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. Reel Rock has secured a contract with Imira Entertainment of Spain to co-produce 52 episodes for the second season of Lucky Fred. AFRICA: ZIMBABWE TO RENAME INSTITUTIONS BEARING COLONIAL NAMES

The New Zimbabwe reports that the Zimbabwean government plans to rename institutions bearing colonial names. Victoria Falls will be renamed alongside several other institutions, following a weekend Zanu PF resolution to use them to honour the country’s liberation heroes.
