FOUNDER OF SUGAR HILL RECORDS SYLVIA ROBINSON DIES

The founder/CEO of seminal Hip Hop label Sugar Hill Records has died of congestive heart failure. Sylvia Robinson founded the label in the 1970s and formed the group The Sugarhill Gang who later went on to release the first commercially successful Hip Hop single Rappers Delight in 1979. She also was the visionary and guiding force behind Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five’s most successful single The Message. Sylvia was 75 years old. ______ ______ Rest In Peace Sylvia Robinson.

PR MOVE / QUOTE OF THE DAY: ‘PARIS HILTON HANDS OUT MONEY TO THE POOR IN INDIA’

Digital Spy reports that heiress/socialite Paris Hilton gave money to the poor in India during a three-day tour of the country which involved promoting her handbag collection and opening a new department store. Hilton apparently gave $100 (£64) to a woman who was standing on the side of the road with her two children, reports IBN, and ‘continued to donate money to other needy Indians throughout the day’. The former A-lister said via Twitter, #India is beautiful, but some parts are very poverty stricken. []

Tennis champion Serena Williams has been appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the children’s charity UNICEF. DAMON DASH IN TROUBLE WITH THE AUTHORITIES, DD172 CLUB/ART SPACE CLOSES DOWN

Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder and Jay-Z’s former and rather loud right-hand man Damon Dash is in trouble with the law. The Village Voice reports that the once feared Hip Hop mogul has been accused of six counts of storing and selling alcoholic beverages without a license, as detailed in court documents obtained by the Voice. Damon’s club/art space DD172 was caught violating the liquor code for the first time in November 2010 and as recently as May, according to the affidavits of police []

UK R&B artist Dele is back with his new single Feel It, taken from the forthcoming mixtape Portraits Of Me. …. Feel It sounds like something Usher would release. I like Dele, he can sing but like Usher he should stick to making R&B records. HYPE WILLIAMS WORKING ON HIS FIRST FEATURE FILM SINCE THE DREADFUL ‘BELLY’

According to the Hollywood Reporter video director Hype Williams is going to be working on his first feature film since 1998’s Belly, which starred rapper DMX, Nas and TLC star T-Boz. The acting was terrible and the film was shot like a music video. Hype should have also kept Jamaica out of that mess.
