UK EVENT: BEFFTA AWARDS 2013 – THE WINNERS / MAD NEWS LOSES OUT TO CARRIB DIRECT

The prestigious BEFFTA ( Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television & Arts) Awards took place on the 25th and 26th October. Surprisingly Mad News was nominated for the ‘Best Community News Website‘ award. But I knew the odds were against me winning the award because I was never officially informed that Mad News had be nominated (I came across this information while having a nose at the nominations list) and I was not sent an invitation to the ceremony. Last week in honour of ‘Black History Month’ Channel 4 aired the documentary My Crazy New Jamaican Life, which was originally going to be called Yardie Wives. For those who missed it ‘My Crazy New Jamaican Life’ focused on two English women, Debbie and Holly who are both in love with Jamaican culture. ‘BARNEYS NEW YORK’ ACCUSED OF RACIAL PROFILING, JAY Z ISSUES STATEMENT AND DEFENDS HIS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE STORE

The WAKE UP calls just keep on coming folks! Last week it was reported that 19 year old African-American student Trayon Christian is suing department store Barneys for “allegedly” calling the police on him after he purchased a $350 designer belt in April. While leaving the store undercover detectives “allegedly” stopped  him and asked, “how a young black man such as himself could afford to purchase such an expensive belt,”. UK NEWS: BBC SET TO AIR TRIBUTE SHOW DEDICATED TO COMEDIAN FELIX DEXTER

The British Blacklist reports that BBC Two has commissioned a one-off tribute show dedicated to Felix Dexter. The 30-minute programme will feature contributions from former colleagues and friends. Felix died last week following a battle with multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer. He was 52 years old. The comedian and actor starred in the hit 1990s BBC black British sketch show The Real McCoy and also recently starred in the BBC 1 sitcom Citizen Khan. Rest In Peace Felix Dexter.
