Set in Brixton, South London and inspired by true events, HONEYTRAP tells the story of 15-year-old Layla, who sets up the boy in love with her to be killed. SKINS alumnus Jessica Sula gives a star-making performance as Layla, perfectly capturing the agonising contradiction of Layla’s choice, caught between local top boy Troy (Lucien Laviscount) and loyal but low status friend Shaun (Ntonga Mwanza). Writer/Director Rebecca Johnson makes her feature debut with a rarely seen female perspective on gang culture, as Layla negotiates becoming a woman in an unforgiving, hyper-masculine world. Tense, shocking and incredibly moving film is a true tour de force.
Cinema release – 8th May.
DVD release – 25th May.
The trailer just told the whole story. Also, I’m sure the BBC did a version of this with John Boyega that looked more authentic.
Yes there was a drama on BBC 3 several years ago.
