England’s World Cup dream is hanging by a thread after Luis Suarez scored a goal in each half to earn Uruguay a 2-1 win in Group D in Sao Paulo.
The fit-again Suarez’s first-half header had been cancelled out by Wayne Rooney’s first World Cup goal, only for the PFA Player of the Year to fire home five minutes from time to leave England with only a slim chance of reaching the last 16 following on from Saturday’s defeat by Italy by the same scoreline.
England face Costa Rica in their final game next Tuesday and will need to win in Belo Horizonte, in addition to hoping Italy beat the other two teams in the group.
However, if Italy fail to beat Costa Rica on Friday, then England’s exit from the World Cup will be confirmed before their last group match.
After the game an England fan in San Paulo said this:
“Even if they do manage to reach the final 16 it won’t make a difference. They will still lose”.
England lack’s passion, hunger and in most cases skill.
When I look at the other teams (in particular the South American teams) you can see and feel their passion and hunger. But when I look at England all I see is a group of pampered young men who look like they want to be somewhere else.
Post 1966 (when England last won the World Cup) people have spent decades GASSING up players who are simply not world-class. This fact becomes clearer every time the World Cup comes around, especially during World Cup 06 when they struggled while playing an inexperienced Trinidad & Tobago .
The reality is it is the foreign players who keep the English Premier League alive. If those players all decided to pack their bags and leave, the league would end up in the toilet.
Last night football fans blasted manager Roy Hodgson for effectively retiring former England star Ashley Cole because they believe an “experienced” Cole would have turned things around for the team last night.
HA!
First of all I have a long memory and have no respect for shoe shine Cole after he rocked up to Westminster Magistrates’ court and defended his racist ‘bestie’. As far as I am concerned he can spend the rest of his days spit polishing John Terry’s boots. Secondly I doubt that Cole’s presence would have made much of a difference last night. It hasn’t in previous tournaments – England still came home empty handed.
This morning The Metro newspaper called the England team ‘toothless lions’.
Yep! That basically sums them up.
