Stephen Smith aka Smoggy who appeared in the controversial Channel 4 documentary ‘Benefits Street’, has received £10,000 investment from self made multi-millionaire Charlie Mullins to open a 50p shop in Birmingham.
Smoggy caught viewers attention in the hit documentary about life on James Turner Street as he went door-to-door selling household goods for 50p. He then later met Charlie after both appeared on Channel 4’s Benefits Britain: The Live Debate.
Charlie who founded Pimlico Plumbers in South London back in 1979 said:
“It was really great to meet Smoggy when he came to Pimlico to have a chat and a look around our HQ. I met him backstage at the Benefits Britain: Live Debate on Channel 4 and it was so inspiring to see someone with as much determination to succeed as he had. This was the same when he came along to Pimlico, so we have invested in his business idea”.
“The latest is that he’s been researching potential premises in Birmingham which is looking really promising for him. I’m sure I’ll be seeing him very soon when his 50p shop really takes off”.
Congratulations Smoggy and good luck!
