Eastenders star Khali Best took home the ‘Best Newcomer’ award at last night’s annual National Television Awards.
A shocked Khali said in his speech:
Hello everyone. Wow, wow this is mad,’ Khali said as he began his speech. ‘This is mad. Good god almighty.
‘Well first of all I didn’t think I was going to win so I’m going to keep it real, keep it honest and come from the heart.
‘First of all I want to thank God. Secondly thank my mum and thank all the people at EastEnders, they’ve been fantastic.
‘I want to thank Dominic Treadwell-Collins too for first of all believing in me and continuing to believe in me.’
After Khali left the stage host Dermot O’Leary said in a snide tone , “good speech… for someone who wasn’t expecting to win” and then added “see you in a cotton picking minute“ before going to a commercial break.
Really Dermot?
I thought that was an interesting response/choice of words used by Mr X Factor.
Did you have a problem with this particular win Dermot?
Ha!
Anyway congratulations Khali who to my knowledge is the first black person on British television to win an award of this kind.

Hmmm interesting. I wonder how he would’ve felt if someone said, we’ll be back in a jiff, as long as Dermot doesn’t try to bomb us………………..
what a nob is dermot o leary.
I see that we are re-entering the seventies. tell the truth, I won’t expect any “outrage”. Remember how many dunce bat black people loved that “love thy neighbour”? I swear the damp weather turns us fool!
Oh wow and I always thought Dermot was OK…how wrong was I!
