TWITTER UK ISSUES STATEMENT ADDRESSING ONLINE ABUSE

In the wake of the racism and threats received by former footballer turned pundit Stan Collymore, social media giant Twitter has issued the following statement: We cannot stop people from saying offensive, hurtful things on the Internet or on Twitter. But we take action when content is reported to us that breaks our rules or is illegal. We have features that allow people to block accounts from following them, unfollow accounts they don’t want to see and filter the replies they receive []

FORMER FOOTBALLER STAN COLLYMORE BLASTS TWITTER FOR NOT DOING MORE TO GET RID OF ABUSIVE TROLLS

Via The Daily Mail Former footballer Stan Collymore has accused Twitter of ‘not doing enough’ to combat abusive tweets on the social networking site after he was targeted by internet trolls. Police confirmed on Tuesday night they were investigating a series of offensive messages directed at the ex-England striker after the pundit suggested Liverpool striker Luis Suarez cheated by diving during Saturday’s match against Aston Villa.
