Sad news folks… it has been announced that Tim Westwood will be leaving BBC Radio (Radio 1 and 1xtra) after almost 20 years service.

DJ Tim Westwood is leaving BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra as part of a schedule update.

His Saturday night show, which is currently broadcast simultaneously on Radio 1 and 1Xtra at 9pm, is being cut.

The new line-up will start with MistaJam at 7pm, followed by Charlie Sloth at 9pm and DJ Target at 11pm.

Radio 1 and 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper said: “I’d like to thank Tim for the last 20 years on Radio 1 – his passion for hip-hop is legendary. I wish him all the very best.” Continue Reading….

The 55 year old joined BBC Radio 1 in 1994 to host the station’s first ever rap show.

Well… well… well… Westwood is leaving. It is definitely the end of an era.

And there is now a new king sitting on the “URBAN” music throne over at BBC 1xtra and surprise surprise he doesn’t look like Trevor Nelson (hahahaha).

Anyway I am not surprised to read that Charlie Sloth has completely taken over Westwood’s coveted rap/Hip Hop DJ position at the station. Standard! Even Stevie Wonder saw that move coming.

Congratulations to Sloth, Mister Jam DJ Target, and last but not least new signing Clara Amfo (YES!).

I wonder what Westwood will do next……. Could a move to America be on the cards or will he end up joining Choice FM?

Your thoughts please….

  1. I don’t think he’ll go to America – there’s already lots of Hip-Hop DJs/personalities. He was great in the UK as the first pioneer of the scene (and DJ Semtex).

I hope he goes to Choice FM as there is an empty spot that Jenny Francis left. He would be perfect in a late-night / early morning slot but I guess it would be hard for him to continue playing at parties and clubs then.

I know people hate him but I really like him LOL. Met him a couple of times and he’s always been lovely.

  2. New show coming soon: Tim’ll Fix It. Instead of daggering teenagers at his club raves he’ll follow Jimmy Saville’s footsteps.
