Digital Spy reports that actor Chucky Venn is going to leave hit BBC One soap Eastenders. Venn’s character Ray Dixon will exit the show in June.
Venn joined the show back in early 2012.
In a statement released to Digital Spy Venn commented: “Working on EastEnders has been one of my career highlights and an invaluable experience. “I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with and have found a life-long friend in my on-screen partner Tameka. I want to thank everyone who supported me on the show.”
Ray’s exit storyline will reportedly see him move away from Walford to be closer to his daughter Sasha when her mother becomes unwell.
Well that didn’t last long.
This news does not come as a surprise because Chucky has never really been given a strong storyline, and come to think of it has not been seen on our screens much for months now. This is usually a bad sign especially if the character is black. It was only going to be a matter of time before lazy script writers axed his character.
I am old enough to remember when Eastenders script writers used to invest a lot of time in creating engaging storylines and brilliant dialogue (e.g. no one could quote Bible scriptures like Dot Cotton – chapter and verse!), but now they seem more interested in producing the same old tired storylines/scenarios and are on this sick quest to brainwash the nation in to believing that an incestuous relationship between first cousins is a positive thing.
Madness.
If you ask me the axing of his character is probably a blessing in disguise for Chucky. It will definitely give him the opportunity to move on to bigger and better things.
He was put in for eye candy…they never really wanted to use him properly. Onwards and upwards. Jeeze he is fine!
He’s cute but can he act? i’ve never really seen him in anything
Yeh he’s a good actor.
