This is why I have always preferred Nas over Jay. Jay has become far too business, Nas really does write lyrics from the heart. I just get the impression that Jay would never venture into an area where he would make an album on the level of “Distance Relatives”.
When Jay got bored of regular rap he made rock/rap hybrids (done) and a concept album based on a drug dealer. Nas made Distant relatives. They are poles apart. So much respect for Nas, there is a lot more about him not shown in this documentary. Not sure about the Kelis bits though, there are two sides to every story.
How people can even compare Nas and Jay-Z I don’t know, for me musically Jay-Z isn’t even close to Nas, if we are talking business then Jay-Z wins hands down, but it’s not always about business, music is about creativity, pushing boundaries and making people think which is what Nas does with his music. When I heard the Nas track I know I can which was to his daughter and then Bridging the Gap with his Dad and then the album with Damien Marley to me Nas put himself top of the commercial rappers.
