UK TV: ITV AXES HOSTS ADRIAN CHILES AND CHRISTINE BLEAKLEY FROM DAYBREAK

Daybreak hosts Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley

When it was first announced over a year ago that Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles were leaving the BBC and moving over to ITV for big bucks (£1million deal) and to front breakfast show Daybreak there was nothing but pure hype and excitement.

Now it’s ended like this….

It was leaked on Friday that both presenters have been axed from the show and an angry and embarrassed Adrian Chiles had this to say about the axing,

‘Myself and Christine were told we would be going in the new year but we were assured we could go with our dignity intact,’ Chiles stated, adding: ‘That’s obviously not happened. We were enjoying the show and thought things were going well. We didn’t want to go.’

He went on to suggest ‘dark forces’ had leaked the news for their own gain and that he is ‘mightily unhappy’.

…..

Just because Adrian and Christine worked well together on the BBC One Show, ITV thought they would bring the same magic to Daybreak. Big mistake. Adrian never really looked comfortable hosting the show and is better at fronting ITV sports coverage shows and the Sunday night talk show he hosts.  Christine wasn’t a disaster but fellow host Kate Garraway looks more comfortable hosting a breakfast show alongside Dan Lobb. They definitely make a better team.

Now Christine will go on to host boring Dancing On Ice.  I just hope that ITV have other jobs lined up for her because hosting Dancing On Ice isn’t the way forward for Christine. The only people who seem to tune in to that show on a weekly basis are showbiz TV critics.

  1. I didn’t like the One Show when they were on it, and I still don’t like it know. It just seems like such a fake and cheesy show, with very weak content. But Adrian Chiles is funny and he was great on ‘The Apprentice you’re fired’

  2. I like them. The One Show format just wasn’t for the early morning I guess. I think Daybreak itself was a bit too lightweight when it first started. News items were more of an afterthought.
