Several days ago media and entertainment union BECTU put MOBO Awards organisers on blast and urged them to pay ALL their staff. The appeal came in response to an advertisement for runners and ushers to work on the event which confirmed that no payment was being offered. The union believed that MOBO was signalling an intention to breach the national minimum wage regulations; the Act stipulates that all work should be paid at least at the level of the national minimum wage.
Well since then MOBO founder/CEO Kanya King has issued the following statement,
“We will not be working with unpaid volunteers on our show. The wording on the advert was not approved by management and an error was made.”
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Are we really expected to believe that management had not seen/approved the advert beforehand??? Oh please!
Congratulations goes out to MOBO Staff who will now be receiving a salary for all their hard work.
