It’s been announced that singer Solange Knowles is now the face of cosmetics giant Rimmel London.
Solange will front Rimmel’s Autumn campaign.
Congratulations Solange, but I thought Rimmel LONDON only hired models/personalities from England to front their campaigns, which also feature images of the Union Jack along with the tag line “GET THE LONDON LOOK”.
Correct me if I am wrong Rimmel but isn’t Solange American, born and raised in Houston, Texas???
Wasn’t LONDON born model Jourdan Dunn available????? Or what about the following individuals…

well hey! I guess they are hoping because of her sister people will pay more attention. But she is also the new face of Carols Daughter and Black Beauty line here in the USA. Can you do two campaigns at once??
Yep I agree with the tweet, Shingai from Noisettes would have been perfect and a better choice,
Correct me if I am wrong, Shingai Shoniwa is more established ( as an artist and more or less known internationally) compare with Solange (which I know a lot of people who have no clue who she is).
Also what’s so wrong with hiring national artists / models who people can relate to easily.
In France ( I am French by the way), they do the same when it comes to cosmetics/ hair, if they want to reach a new target demographic ( dark skinned women in that case) they always choose a Black American artist to promote it.
So it’s ok to be Black only if you are American! lol!
Well nothing Rimmel London do surprises me. I emailed them about the shades in their Match Perfection foundation and they replied they have no intention of selling the darker shades outside the usa and canada *major fail* when your company encompasses the name London. I take it the boardroom staff do not know what London looks like or its demographic.
Alicia Dixon would have been good for this as she has a uk wide appeal and yes all those other ladies mentioned. even Alexandra Burke smh smh
I guess these companies do not see us as black enough unless american is attached to our description. smh kmt
I forgot about Jourdan Dunn, also that cute model who recently featured on the reality TV show The Agency (can’t remember her name)
Ok, lets me help Rimmel out. BTW, this isnt a shot at Solange, as I love her, but Rimmel need to fix up.
The following Black British Females could have been used……….
Shingai (The Noisette)
VV Brown
Alesha Dixon
Alexandra Burke
Leona Lewis
Rochelle from The Saturdays
Keisha Buchanan
Estelle
Jourdan Dunn
Freema Agyman
Skin (skunk Anasie)
Toula Adeyemi
Not saying that these are all my choices, just pointing out that we have notable black females who they could have brainstormed. Rimmel PR probably have the typical PR type of girls working there. They know nothing about popular culture, just the obvious (Kylie, Cheryl Cole, Madonna) anything outside of that, there little middle class brains get confused, cha!
Have Rimmel London changed their strategy recently and not told anyone? Why choose Solange Knowles, who face it is only known as being Beyonce’s younger sister. Even Pippa Middletin has a higher profile and she only burst on to the scene a month ago. All the people Miss Lala suggested would have been perfect so why not choose them? Even Naomi would have been better. And as for them not selling darker shades outside of the US and Canada – well they can sod right off. I will no longer buy their products.
Alesha Dixon should never be considered when promoting anything “black”. The gyal stupid nuh ra!!. She has a BIG problem with any “mixed race” person who refers to themselves as “black”. But like a whole heap hypocrites, do not mind using us to make a money. Tell the truth, I see most of our black female celebrities as boring, trying to copy the Americans, but trying ever so hard to be different, and failing. Estelle gets my respect, Skin is too damn sensible to get caught up in ANY Rimmell nonsense. Toula Adeyemi, when she gonna stop falling out of the party page of my Grazia magazine? The rest of the suggestions (God, where are our proper black female celebrities?) are a much of a muchness. Again Shingai, may or may not be focusing just on her music and is waiting for a proper, higher end set of people to approach her. At least she works at her image and don’t rock the Lady Godiva weave. Jourdan Dunn although a model is much more high end. The reat of them couldn’t entice me to buy ANYTHING I hadn’t bought before. That is why I don’t run with this team U.K nonsense. The Black British thing for me isn’t Black enough or interesting enough for me. Pan African, mi seh!
@ I agree with most of your comment but Solange is still a nobody to me, lol!
Shingai (or even Estelle) have much more style and charisma ( in my point opinion, of course) than her,
Anyway it’s done already!
I
You can do as many campaigns as you want as long as the company does not see a conflict of interest. I am not mad at the choice Solange is pretty and she has been doing her lil Euro thang for a minute. *eshrugs* I don’t get mad when they use that tart and reformed coke head Kate Moss in American ads so get over yourselves! Damn can’t a bitch live?
