CHARITY ACCUSES MADONNA OF STAGING ‘A PUPPY PARADE’ AS SHE SEEKS TO ADOPT AGAIN

Madonna was yesterday accused by the leading children’s charity of conducting a “puppy parade” over her plan to adopt a second child from Malawi.

The singer is due to arrive in the African country tomorrow in an attempt to adopt a four-year-old girl called Mercy James.

But Save The Children says orphans should be cared for by their extended family or community and that taking them abroad is “not a solution.”

Spokesman Dominic Nutt said: “What Madonna is doing verges on a puppy parade. People like her are looking for the most beautiful child. They wouldn’t choose a child with a disability or special needs.

“It doesn’t help to take one child out of an orphanage to a huge palace and buy them a pony. All these children who may only have one parent, or no parent, cannot be transported to Notting Hill by pop stars.

“Madonna’s heart may be in the right place, but other mothers will look up to her and she’s setting a terrible example.”

Yesterday Mercy’s grandmother and uncle, who had vowed to fight the adoption, were suddenly in the care of officials from Madonna’s charity Raising Malawi.

Mercy had been living with her grandmother and uncle, but was placed in an orphanage run by Madonna’s charity, Raising Malawi.

The owner of the Kondanani Children’s Village orphanage yesterday denied Madonna bull-dozed Mercy’s relatives into approving the adoption.

Anne Chikhwaza said that after explaining that Madonna will not cut her ties to them, or Malawi, “they were more than happy to relent”. Continue Reading…..

When I first read about Mercy’s family and about how they opposed her adoption I thought, ‘well if you place a child in to an orphanage then there is a chance that somebody will come a long and want to adopt that child. So what did they expect?’

If Mercy had remained in the care of her grandmother and uncle then this wouldn’t be an issue now.

Anyway the family are said to be no longer opposing the adoption.

Hmmmmm I wonder what changed their minds?

A part of me feels Madonna has her heart in the right place and that she desperately wants to give these children a better start in life etc, but then suspicion rears it’s ugly head and I think, ‘does Madonna have an ulterior motive here?’

  1. I think Maddona’s heart is in the right place definately. The problem here is, the orphanage know she is loaded, so the best way to get some money is to hang on to the child and milk money out of her. And the problem will come in when, lets say she donated money, the funds might be used innappropriately and not on the orphans.
IMO, she is better taking the child, then atleast she will not be blackmailed with things like, the children have no clothes, no medicine, no food etc… and then start wondering what the money was used for.

At least if the child is with her, they have her full attention almost and she does not have to worry about what is ten thousand miles away. If anything happened to her (God forbid), that child will be guaranteed a future, but if they were back home, their life would be done when she is done.
I can smell greed form miles away. IMO

Side bar, just got remindded of the mumbai kids who went for the oscar awards. I thought, why the hell did they transport them for the oscars and spend money on air tickets and accomodation when they were going back to no food and no homes? They could have given that money and not wasted it. It was a good experience but not if you are going to be homeless.

  2. The child can always visit them and know her background and real family anytime if that is what they afraid of. I doubt Maddona will hide thier background from them when they are grown and start asking questions.

  3. let Madonna get the child!geesh. people! she clearly seems to be a good mom, there hasnt been any rumors denying it.The government needs to shove it!

  4. I don’t oppose it either… my thing is if you don’t want your grand daughter/niece adopted then don’t place her in an orphanage… I wonder if her kids are happy and how much does Madge really parent?? Then again, I don’t really care I have my own child to worry about!!

  5. What the hell, so because she has money she is supposed to adopt all the children of Malawi and the UK…people need to be real and get their fingers out and join the casue instead of speculating behind the comforts of their own apathy.

  6. It is pure greed. And they have the cheeck to tell her who to adopt (disabled or not). Let her do what she can. She can not save the whole of Malawi.
So many people donate their money and it is not used on what it should. Yes and the governments should do something exemplary as well.
Let her take the one child and have a peace of mind.
They place the child in an orphanage, then when someone with money comes along, they try to tighten the strings? Ha

  7. “Their” and “they” in the first post is meant for (Banda and Mercy), not all the orphans. LOL

  8. sorry i disagree, due to the fact its the NANNY who will be gaining another child not her royal richness!!!! The woman is media controlling and she and lawyers will be promising the earth to their family. Instead of in house adopting helping the family – building a house – arranging education and sponsorship in Africa, she feels bringing her to US to be paraded through the flashing lights of the media – being cared by nannies while she pon world tours is better? Who really has this childs best interest at heart really. I agree with the charity!!!!

  9. Save the Children are right, imo.
Shipping out children to wealthy Westerners, plantation owner style might be gratifying for the new ‘owners’, sorry ‘parents’, but it does nothing to address the long term issues in the country.

There’s a disturbing subtext to this whole thing – that only wealthy people know how to raise children. Madonna will be able to buy Mercy designer clothes, and send her to private schools. Of course that’s better than starving in an orphanage, but let’s not confuse having money with parenting skills.

There is actually a third option, namely to support Mercy with her own extended family and culture. Instead of encouraging more people to treat Malawi like a baby farm, why not actually help Malawians out of poverty so they don’t have to put their children in orphanages.

Madonna’s financially better off than most parents in the States and the UK – no-body would argue that she’s justified in taking their kids from them, just because she’s not as rich as she is, which is pretty much the argument those who support this adoption.

  10. Contrary to the Disney-like tale of ‘money can’t buy you love, happiness’ and everything else that makes we the poor allegedly feel better I suspect that David is far from being in abject misery living with Madonna or her nannys.

But that doesn’t make a good story..

    BTW, long time Miss Irie!

  11. Until they start using the child as ransom and a money making scheme. Was she not placed in an orphanage b4 madona came along or did she discover her at her granny’s? And who was taking care of her at the orphanage?

  12. Help malawi out of poverty? I think the gov’t of malawi needs 2 do something, same 4 all african countries and stop waiting on western world 2 do something. They waste alot of funds on cabinet members and family. They waste charity funds aswell.

  13. sadly her teen mother died early on, the grandmother was apparently looking after then she was placed in an orphange. Papers signed by uncle. They do not know the location of the father – this is not a legal adoption. The thing that really goats me is, Malawi has strict adoption proceedures, you have to live in the country for a year and be monitored. To protect children from trafficking, this was overturned for her first adopted son, she wants to do the same again. Agencies are there to protect but often exploit for financial gain. She should have have monitored intergration with the little girl for a year before filing papers. Today its Madonna but 2moz it will be sign a big check and we’ll slip you a kid over the borders.

  15. I can only imagine what will happen to the girl in the long run when her grand mother is not alive. Whoever will take over her care, i doubt will have her best interests at heart especially where money is concerned, and especially if it is coming from the western countries. Either she takes her and in the long run she is better off, or she stays in malawi and in the long run becomes a money making scheme. If the relatives can not protect her now(uncle), imagine what will happen when the granny is gone. Policies hardly mean anything in africa i am afraid. They can be made and broken( not that it is right), just the way it is.
