  1. I’m not surprised this happened to Colgan Air. Colgan Air is a money-pinching, fly-by-night, bottom-feeder airline living on the brink of closing that places inexperienced kids in the cockpit and trains them on the job. They’ve immensely benefitted from their founder’s political connections, Virginia State Senator Chuck Colgan, which saved their a$$ more than once. Yesterday’s wx conditions in that particular area of the country surely demanded a more experienced crew. That’s the dirty little lie of most commuter operations across the USA. It’s also important to note that Colgan just recently transitioned to this aircraft type. They’ve only flown Saab 340s and Beech 1900s before.

  2. Such a sad event, to put it mildly, and a stark contrast to the landing in the Hudson.

I heard that the plane was on autopilot even as it crashed. I feel for the families of all killed–passengers. the man on the ground, and the crew, and yet this latest news would explain why so many seasoned pilots out there were puzzled and calling the accident a recoverable event.. I hope the FCC, in the future, mandating the pilot flying in even moderately icy conditions will mean that the lessons learned from this tragedy will save other lives in the future.
