Memphis Bleek recently spoke to HipHopGame.TV and defended his decision to appear in a commericial for Garnier’s Fructis Flow Shampoo.
The rapper who is also Jay-Z’s protege/hype man stated,
“Making yourself into a brand. That’s what that’s called, I don’t think niggas understand that”.
“You get off the plane in Ireland and that product will be on the shelf. When you see that product here, you see that there. And you get a hell of a cheque. They gave me a hell of a cheque to f**k with the bitches.”
That was sooooo eloquently put Bleek. Well done!
If you have yet to see this commercial then watch below. Bleek pops up towards the end.
I don’t blame Bleek for taking the money and running. Travelling with Jay and being his hype man can only get him so far financially. And he is never going to be a top selling or highly respected artist, so he needs to look for other ways to supplement his income in these desperate times.
Aligning himself with Garnier is a good move. Those cheques will keep food on the table and the lights on.
…..Now had it been Nas, Mos Def, Common or Talib Kweli appearing in the same commercial, chances are I would be singing a totally different tune (lol).
Categories: interesting move

Wow, I just watched a 3:59 music video about hair & shampoo, that’s exactlly 3mins & 29s more than I bargained for. Oh well, since it’s Garnier, Bleek’ll be gettin’ paid.
I wonder how big Dark and Lovely cheques are…..
hehe, …ahh boi, that was funny janice, well the video, humm, well, ahhh, I don’t even know what to say!
Fast forrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrward to 3:01, don’t waste time LOL.
CREDIT CRUNCH kids gotta eat !!!
The commercial’s so cheesy though… lol
LMFAO!
get that money son!!!!!!!!!
like common dont do the same thing!!!
memphis ya alright with me!!!
WoW! No Words!
Why should he have to defend himself?
As long as the product doesn’t have a sordid history, why can’t Black artists support it and make money off of it? What’s the problem?
Ignorance sometimes (actually, pretty much all the time) closes ones eyes to opportunities that are staring you in the face.
Get that paper, Bleek!
*try to get back into the studio too, while you’re at it…LOL*
I agree he shouldn’t have to defend himself. I mean it’s Bleek, what else can he do to make an honest crust. It’s not like he’s going to ever make money from his music, well not with Jay writing all his rhymes, so Fructis is a life saver.
However the commercial is cheesy beyond belief! But hey it’s Bleek!
