AFRICA: ZIMBABWE TO RENAME INSTITUTIONS BEARING COLONIAL NAMES

The New Zimbabwe reports that the Zimbabwean government plans to rename institutions bearing colonial names. Victoria Falls will be renamed alongside several other institutions, following a weekend Zanu PF resolution to use them to honour the country’s liberation heroes. ROBERT MUGABE WINS ZIMBABWE ELECTION

  The Guardian reports that 89 year old Robert Gabriel Mugabe has won the Zimbabwe election. The Zanu-PF party leader has been elected for further five-year term but the vote is rejected by opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai as fraudulent. The European Union said it was concerned about alleged irregularities and a lack of transparency in the election, its strongest criticism so far. The EU’s verdict on the fairness of the elections will be crucial to deciding whether it continues to ease sanctions on []

The Metro Prisoners should be given sex toys to prevent homosexuality from spreading in  Zimbabwe’s jails, a senator has said. Allowing inmates to satisfy their sexual appetites should be a priority if  homosexuality – which is illegal in Zimbabwe – is to be curbed,  senator  Sithembile Mlotshwa said. ‘In other countries they provide sex gadgets and have constructed rooms where  people go and service themselves when the desire arises,’ she told a  parliamentary meeting on gender and development. A married man hired a prostitute and got that shock of his life when he opened the door only to find his daughter standing in front of him. ZIMBABWEAN WOMEN IN COURT ACCUSED OF RAPING MALE HITCHHIKERS

Via The Guardian Three Zimbabwean women have been accused of a series of sex attacks on male hitchhikers, purportedly to steal their semen for use in ritual practices. In a case that has gripped media and public imagination, the gang appeared in court to face charges of aggravated indecent assault. POLICE ON THE HUNT FOR FEMALE RAPISTS IN ZIMBABWE

The Voice reports that police in Zimbabwe are hunting down a group of women who have been sexually assaulting young men at gunpoint. They believe the trio, who kidnap “young men” before sexually assaulting them, carry out the act for ritual purposes, because in some cases the women use condoms to collect the man’s sperm, fuelling further speculation that the crimes are ritualistic. UK NEWS: FORMER X-FACTOR STAR’S VISA RULING REVERSED

It’s good news for Gamu Nhengu and her family members.. well at least for now! Via BBC News Former X Factor singer Gamu Nhengu and her family have won the latest round of their legal fight to remain in the UK. The Home Office had turned down a visa renewal application by the teenage singer’s mother, but reversed that decision at a hearing in Glasgow. The 18-year-old and her family are originally from Zimbabwe but have lived in Clackmannanshire for several years. []

UK NEWS: FORMER X-FACTOR CONTESTANT GAMU TO RELEASE CHARITY CHRISTMAS SINGLE

Former X-Factor contestant Gamu Nhengu has recorded a Christmas single in aid of a Scottish charity. Gamu who failed to make it to the live stages of the farcical TV show, will release the single  Where Will You Sleep This Christmas. The track will be released on 13 December. Gamu along with the rest of her family left Zimbabwe several years ago, and are currently battling to stay in the UK after they were granted the right to appeal against a decision forcing them to leave the country. ZIMBABWE’S PM’S WIFE DIES IN CAR CRASH

Via BBC News The wife of Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has been killed in a car crash in which he was also slightly hurt, party officials say. Susan Tsvangirai was travelling with her husband south of Harare when their vehicle was in collision with a lorry. Mr Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party, formed a unity government with President Robert Mugabe last month.
