NME Magazine reports today that the Warner Music Group will be sold for £1.8 billion within a matter of days. The group includes the imprints Atlantic Records, Reprise Records and EastWest Records as well as many others. It will reportedly be bought by either the Gores brothers, who own a series of powerful media and communications companies, or by Russian tycoon Len Blavatnik. For several years now old skool rapper Roxanne Shante (real name Lolita Shanté Gooden) has been telling the world that she earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Marymount Manhatten College and received her PhD in Psychology from Cornell University. We were also led to believe that Warner Music Group funded Roxanne’s education because of some clause in her recording contract with them. But it was all lies I’m afraid! The video to Jay-Z’s new single Run This Town featuring Rhianna and Kanye West premiered on MTV worldwide today. I just watched the video and the amount of hype being generated by Jay’s label and MTV leading up to the premiere was in my humble opinion – UNNECESSARY! Run This Town isn’t particularly spectacular and the warrior/Armageddon theme that runs through the video isn’t exactly original. So why all the fuss, anticipation and countless teasers?
