The video to Jay-Z’s new single Run This Town featuring Rhianna and Kanye West premiered on MTV worldwide today.
I just watched the video and the amount of hype being generated by Jay’s label and MTV leading up to the premiere was in my humble opinion – UNNECESSARY!
Run This Town isn’t particularly spectacular and the warrior/Armageddon theme that runs through the video isn’t exactly original.
So why all the fuss, anticipation and countless teasers?
Oh stupid question! It’s because it’s a “mighty Hov” production.
I am old enough to remember when this type of hype for a video release was reserved for the likes of the late great Michael Jackson. But in MJ’s case the hype was always well deserved.
Your thoughts please…

This song is hot! This video is dark and moody which is nice compared to the money cash hoes theme of most rap videos. Rihannas brand is solidly beautiful edgey and chic- she sells it well.
Video’s okay. Very 1980’s MTV; co-sign you.
Too much Rihanna in the video though, you’d think it was her track, and her posturing is lol.
