The Guardian reports that 89 year old Robert Gabriel Mugabe has won the Zimbabwe election. The Zanu-PF party leader has been elected for further five-year term but the vote is rejected by opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai as fraudulent. The European Union said it was concerned about alleged irregularities and a lack of transparency in the election, its strongest criticism so far. Via BBC News The wife of Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has been killed in a car crash in which he was also slightly hurt, party officials say. Susan Tsvangirai was travelling with her husband south of Harare when their vehicle was in collision with a lorry. Mr Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party, formed a unity government with President Robert Mugabe last month. Mr Tsvangirai won the first round of last year’s presidential election – but he withdrew from the run-off citing violence against his supporters.
