It’s been reported on DJ Premier’s Blog that Hip Hop legend Guru (real name Keith Elam and best known as front man for GangStarr) died yesterday (April 19th) after a long battle fighting cancer. HIP HOP LEGEND GURU IN COMA AFTER SUFFERING A HEART ATTACK

It has been reported that Hip Hop legend Guru ( real name Keith Alam) is in a coma after suffering a heart attack yesterday (Feb 28th). Via The Guardian The rapper’s condition was confirmed by DJ Premier, his partner in the seminal hip-hop group Gang Starr, in a phonecall to radio show Hip Hop Nation yesterday. He is reported as saying: “Guru is in a coma and will go under surgery tomorrow afternoon.”  I hope he pulls through.

SINGER TEDDY PENDERGRASS DIES

Legendary R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass has died. The singer’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father died at a hospital in suburban Philadelphia. Pendergrass underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had “a difficult recovery,” his son added. Rest In Peace Teddy Pendergrass.

NEW ALBUM: RAKIM – ‘SEVENTH SEAL’

The ‘God MC’ Rakim will finally release his long-awaited new album Seventh Seal on the 23rd November. Guest artists featured on the album include Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Maino, Styles P, and Rakim’s daughter Destiny Griffin.  I listened to the album last night and Rakim is still a master lyricist.  In my humble opinion that will NEVER change.  When I hear him rap it takes me back to a time when only the skilled and talented ruled the world of Hip Hop. The heavyweight Hip-Hop duo are backing an $11 million dollar production of Bill. T. Jones’ musical “Fela,” which will open in November. The original version of the play opened off-Broadway last September, starring actor Sahr Ngaujah, who will reprise his critically acclaimed role as Fela Kuti.
