Via BBC News The father of Damilola Taylor – the schoolboy murdered in south London in 2000 – is to be Labour’s special envoy on youth violence and knife crime. Richard Taylor has been campaigning against the carrying of knives since his son, 10, was killed as he returned home to Peckham after a day at school. DISARMING BRITAIN SEASON: SHOULD THIS BILLBOARD BE REMOVED?

The Billboard below, promoting Channel 4’s Disarming Britain season, which takes a look at the current rise in violence on Britain’s streets, was brought to my attention today by photographer Lloyd Best. Best (a black man) say’s he walks past this Billboard on a daily basis and finds it offensive. He is currently in the process of getting the authorities to remove the billboard from the public’s view. I am interested to know what your thoughts are on this matter? Is the billboard offensive? should it be removed ASAP?

Murdered: Shakilus Townsend Four teenagers, including a girl of 15, have appeared in court accused of murdering 16-year-old Shakilus Townsend in south London. Shakilus, from Deptford, was beaten with a baseball bat and repeatedly stabbed in Thornton Heath on 3 July. Tyrell Ellis, 18, of Thornton Heath, two youths, aged 17 and 16, and the girl, were remanded in custody by Sutton Magistrates. Murdered: Shakilus Townsend Five people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Shakilus Townsend, police said today. Officers arrested one person around 9pm yesterday and the others this morning, Scotland Yard said. Unlike the negative track, ‘You’ll Get Wrapped’ featuring Lethal B and Ghetto, which was subsequently thrown under my ugly file, ‘These Streets’ approaches the subject matter of gun crime and the escalating violence on Britain’s streets, in a constructive and sensible fashion.  The video/track is part of a new weapons awareness campaign, and the artists featured are part of the Leeds based Hip Hop collective, Invizible Circle.
