I came across our latest UK Twitter “spat” over at Pappzd.com earlier today, and from what I gather it all started when female emcee Amplify Dot tweeted that Eastenders star Bunmi Mojekwu (who plays Merci in the soap) “is wedge” (meaning thick). Digital Spy reports that actress Bunmi Mojekwu who plays Mercy Olubunmi in the BBC 1 soap Eastenders, will be written out of the hit show later this year. EastEnders bosses have today confirmed that Mercy Olubunmi will be leaving Albert Square later this year. The Walford student, played by actress Bunmi Mojekwu, will bow out on-screen in the summer after a year as a regular cast member on the show. BBC Soap Eastenders always seems to get wrong when they decide to integrate a black family into the show. The show recently introduced family members Mercy Olubunmi (played by Bunmi Mojekwu) and her Nigerian grandmother Grace Olubunmi (played by Ellen Thomas). Eastenders online spin off Eastenders: E20 is currently being screened online throughout January, and the only cast member who hasn’t made the transition from the online spinoff to the main BBC 1 soap is surprise surprise, actress Bunmi Mojekwu.
