Singer Alicia Keys has lost her job at Blackberry. The struggling smart phone giant announced in January 2013 that they had appointed the singing superstar as the company’s new ‘Global Creative Director’ and hoped that her appointment to the post would help “inspire the future” of the company. Actor James Avery who played Phillip Banks (‘uncle Phil’) in the hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bell Air has died. He was 65 years old. Avery’s publicist told Sky News he died from complications following open-heart surgery in Glendale, California, on Tuesday afternoon. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara, his mother, Florence Avery, and his step-son, Kevin Waters. Rest In Peace James Avery.
The Voice reports that Scotland’s first black university professor, Geoffrey Palmer will be knighted for services to human rights, science and charity. Jamaican-born Palmer is a professor emeritus at Edinburgh’s of Heriot-Watt University and specialises in cereal and grain science. Former Choice FM presenter Daddy Ernie will join Internet radio station Vibes FM in the new year. Ernie will present his Superjam show on Mondays and Tuesdays, 8pm to 11pm. The Jamaica Gleaner reports that Reel Rock GSW Animation Limited, a Jamaican animation company, has announced that it will be co-producing a cartoon series aired on the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. Reel Rock has secured a contract with Imira Entertainment of Spain to co-produce 52 episodes for the second season of Lucky Fred.
