Today mark’s the 30th anniversary of Stephen Lawrence’s murder.
18 year old Stephen Lawrence, lived in Plumstead, south east London. He was attacked by a group of white teenagers (Gary Dobson, David Norris and brothers Neil and Jamie Acourt), while waiting for a bus with his best friend Duwayne Brooks on Well Hall Road in Eltham, south east London, on the evening of the 22 April, 1993.
The case became one of the highest profile racial killings in British history and exposed police corruption. The murder also led to an inquiry headed by Sir William Macpherson which concluded that the Metropolitan Police Force was “institutionally racist”. ALWAYS WILL BE!!!
Since Stephen’s murder the fight for justice has not stopped. In 2012 two of the perpetrators, Gary Dobson and David Norris both received “life sentences”. Dobson will serve a minimum of 15 years and two months, and Norris 14 years and three months.
Rest in Peace Stephen Lawrence. 🙏🏾🕊️🇬🇧🇯🇲
