Deadline reports that British actress Cynthia Erivo, has been cast to play heroic abolitionist Harriet Tubman.

The Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-winner will play Tubman in the feature film Harriet, which follows her escape from slavery and subsequent missions to free dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad in the face of growing pre-Civil War adversity.

Production will begin next month in Virginia (USA).
