Following recent viral celebrations honouring the inclusion of women of colour gracing the covers of mainstream publications, two sisters prepare to amplify the digital momentum by launching an empowering new hair and beauty event, Shades of Beauty Live, on 24th and 25th August 2018 at London’s iconic Lindley Hall.  Grace and Christina Adesina will be joined by a who’s who’ list of prominent influencers and entrepreneurs including Sharmadean Reid MBE and The Slumflower (Chidera Eggerue) an award-winning author and founder of the #SAGGYBOOBSMATTER movement at the highly anticipated inaugural event that  invites young women to celebrate their individual expression.

While the internet has played a vital role in highlighting a growing demand and shift towards greater representation of beauty and body positivity, the entrepreneurial sisters have created a space for women of colour who, despite recent efforts, are still often marginalised from mainstream conversations.  Acknowledging the unique experience of young black women in particular, the event supports Ashdon Jazz Academy, a charity set up by a mother in memory of her daughter providing mentoring services for girls living in South London.

The show will feature live panel discussions including beauty perceptions in the digital age and colourism where visitors will hear from inspiring personalities across the hair, beauty and lifestyle sectors including Capital XTRA’s Yinka Bokinni and dynamic duo Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinene authors of the highly acclaimed book, ‘Slay in Your Lane’.

 Christina said,

“Growing up in a digital generation can be seen as a blessing and a curse, and so it’s important for us to encourage human interaction. Women of colour are as diverse as the shades we come in and so (we) should not be homogenised. Shades of Beauty Live is taking the online offline; having fun, networking, promoting businesses, and most importantly, discussing the issues represented by social media hashtags.”

As well as complimentary drinks on arrival, visitors will be treated to a free goody bag, live demos and workshops, makeovers and exclusive discounts from top brands including Palmer’s, Curls, Revlon Realistic, Twisted Sista as well as independents from the UK and abroad.
