UK Film News: ABSENT: A Powerful Drama That Highlights The Epidemic Of Fatherless Homes

Mummy, why doesn’t Daddy live here?’ A familiar question in far too many households globally. Period!

ABSENT is a family Drama that revolves around Angel Washington a successful accountant, (Segilola Ogidan) and her talented seven-year-old son, Joshua, (Jaden Ayodele) who is reluctantly thrust into the single-parent world when her ex-partner Marcus (Kayode Akinyemi) abruptly becomes an absent father after their break up. Her constant efforts to reconnect father and son become futile, therefore leaving her in a perpetual state of bitterness and anger, consequently losing her job, family home and having numerous run in’s with the law.

ABSENT is the brainchild of Aysha Scott of A Scott Productions. A successful actress in her own rights, this is Scott’s second feature film, directorial debut and her first feature film on her production slate; and a story that sits very close to Scott’s heart as it is, in fact, her story and one she wants to bring to the big screen.

Embarking upon an Indiegogo campaign, Scott’s objective is to raise the much-needed remainder funds to complete the film which boasts a stellar cast. Scott said: “I’m making this film because I am tired of hearing countless stories of pain, anger, resentment and blame. I’m fed up of the misconception of broken homes, the negative stereotypes put on single mothers and the lack of knowledge of the life-long effects of parental absence.
This happens far too often in our society.”

Scott continues: “ As female filmmakers, Segilola and I wanted to make this film to challenge the stereotypes about single parents, especially in the black community and to give a voice to the women who find themselves without help and unable to let go of their anger. I can’t just sit back and let this growing problem continue for another generation.”

Filming is due to commence at the end of September/early October, with a 2017 release.
