Yesterday the team selected to represent Britain at this year’s Paralympics was announced (click here to view full list).
I would like to congratulate my dearest friend and shot put star Vanessa Daobry, who received the good news that she will also be going to Rio.
Tottenham born and raised Vanessa, a wheel chair user took up shot put 18 months ago after attending a try-out session. Her first ever competition was little more than a year ago. She then later threw a lifetime best of 7.21 metres, which means Vanessa is currently ranked No 1 in Europe and No 4 in the world.
In a recent interview with the UEL website, Vanessa said:
“I’m always pinching myself about what has happened to me. It all feels very surreal because it’s been so quick.”
“I’ve surprised myself at what I’ve done but I’m still learning a lot. I’m still learning about what my body is capable of.”

Congratulations again Nessa. You are an inspiration and I am so proud of you. xxx
