The Stage reports that British actor David Ajala will star in One Night in Miami, a stage play about the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.
Twenty-two-year-old Cassius Clay (he later changed his name to Muhammad Ali) has just won the world heavyweight boxing title. Instead of hitting the town, Clay chooses to celebrate in a Miami hotel room with three close friends—activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke, and football star Jim Brown.
This fictional account of a real night imagines what might have happened in that tiny hotel room. As the Civil Rights movement stirs outside, and the melody of “A Change is Gonna Come” hangs in the air, four men will emerge from that one night ready to define a new world.
Ajala will play Jim Brown the star running fullback for the Cleveland Browns, who holds every rushing and touchdown record in the NFL. In later life he would have success as a film actor, and in the play demonstrates this ambition both as his duty within the civil rights movement, as well as for personal gain.

One Night In Miami director Kwame Kwei-Armah
One Night In Miami runs from October 6 to December 3 at the Donmar Warehouse in London, and is directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah.
