Afrobeats DJ – DJ Abrantee
Radio personality DJ Abrantee has jumped on Twitter to blast calls to boycott this year’s Oscars ceremony (read Oscars 2016 Boycott timeline)
The Capital XTRA star tweeted:
I am past caring about the Oscars and the Academy’s dubious selection process. It’s time to stop begging it, leave the Academy to it. We (black creatives) should just continue to focus on building and nurturing our own platforms.
As for the rest of Abrantee’s Twitter rant, here you have a black high-profile radio DJ stating on a public platform that black people have more or less tried to destroy him and the Afrobeats movement that he allegedly “created”, likened us to crabs in a bath (I think he meant to say ‘crabs in a barrel’), and then goes on to accuse us all of not supporting our own.
This is problematic on so many different levels and will come back to bite him on the arse further on down the line.
