Unpaid work is forcing thousands of freelancers out of business each year. Employers who are promising exposure, experience or prestige in return for services are harming freelancers and the industry at large.

This has been a long time coming. 

I understand that agreeing to do some free work within the creative industries can lead to gaining experience and paid work, but there are a lot of organisations who hold on tightly to the purse strings because they know that these days everyone seems to want a “job in media”, so they hire individuals (usually younger people) who are desperate to get a foot in the door and easy to exploit.

Last year it was reported that major US record labels (THE BIGGEST OFFENDERS) were being sued by former interns, (Click here to read this story) and Kyle Grant’s story.

I hope the petition leads to change in the UK.
