US rapper and musician Afroman ( real name Joseph Foreman) has been arrested after video footage showed him punching a female fan on stage during a concert in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The rapper best known for his 2001 hit Because I Got High was seen hitting the woman, who was dancing on stage behind him at the Kress Live venue.
Biloxi Police said he was arrested for assault on Tuesday and later released on bail.
In an interview with TMZ, Foreman said:
“I’m here to apologise. I need some help. I’m going to find a foundation. I didn’t have time to medicate. It was an early show. I usually play at night and I’ve had my dinner and I medicate, I get right… it was an early show, it was Mardi Gras, I had to walk like half a mile to get there, I had my frustrations to make a long story short.”
He added that there was a guy “yelling” at him from the side of the stage, before a group of girls joined him and began dancing. As most of them were removed, one remained nearby.
“I thought it was the guy trying to heckle my act. When people get on stage you don’t know what they’re doing. I’m just trying to do my job, and I thought it was that guy. I turned around and you know man, s***.
It was wrong, I shouldn’t have slapped her with an open hand. And security should have been there… I’m just here to do me, I shouldn’t, what happened shouldn’t have happened.” I’m just trying to make the best out of a bad situation.”
In the words of the legendary MC Lyte….
