Today a friend of mine summed up the media’s news coverage of the Ebola crisis in West Africa.
- African dies in Africa – not newsworthy
- African dies in Europe/North America after travelling from Africa – only newsworthy if they have, or might have, infected a European/North American
- European/North American dies in Africa – mildly newsworthy
- European/North American dies in Europe/North America having visited Africa – highly newsworthy
- European/North American dies having never been to Africa – plaster it across the paper under the headline “We’re all going to die!”

Are Americans/Europeans wrong for putting the interest of their own people first? Should Africans be condemned if they put the interest of their fellow Africans before Europeans?
There was an article about the cast system in the media a couple of years back. Ads are also structured that way . If you have traveled across the middle east and read some of their newspaper , they operate the exact same way but then turn around and complain lol! .
