Tales From The Motherland Productions is an independently run production company that focuses on theatre and film projects which shed light on Africans across the diaspora. Some of our past productions have included the feature film Woolwich Boys (2012)
Why should you support this project? ‘Monalisa Lives!’ is based on the infamous July 1973 visit to of Dr Marcello Caetano to the the capital. It focuses on a female assassin sent to kill the Portuguese Prime Minister during a state visit to London. The film highlights neo-colonialist and pan africanist themes which still exist today. We feel, with the changing political climate on the continent, it will be a relevant piece of cinema.
£5000 for a period film? NO, this will not be the entire budget for the film. We will be using this money to go into pre-production. The rest of the money will be raised through private investment, but they need to see how much money we can raise on our own so as to minimise the equity they have.
MonaLisa Lives! is due to go in to production, August 2014.
