On Friday TMZ released damaging audio of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling spouting all kind of racist nonsense during a bizarre argument with his “girlfriend” (Click here to read/listen).
CNN now reports that the NBA (National Basketball Association) has slapped Sterling with a lifetime ban from the sport and a $2.5 million fine.
Basketball commissioner Adam Silver said:
“Sentiments of this kind are contrary to the principles of inclusion and respect that form the foundation of our diverse, multicultural and multi-ethnic league. Regardless of whether Sterling’s views were expressed in private, they are now public and they reflect his views.”
Silver added that the National Basketball Association will begin immediately the process to force Sterling to sell the team.
Sterling bought the Clippers for $12 million in 1981, and the team is now worth $575 million, according to Forbes magazine.
